Think we have found the perfect property nearby, but don't really know the area that well. We just think it's a beautiful area. Would love to hear from anybody who knows it well what they think. Thank you...

Hello - my parents live about five minutes from there, so I know the area well. You're right: it is beautiful! What would you like to know? Where exactly is the house - in Northiam itself?

House is just on the outskirts of Northiam. Just wondering what the community feel is like, what kind of things are on offer for kids, general sense of the place. It's hard to gauge the year round 'feel' of a place from a few visits - often helps to get insiders' perspectives. We were looking at another part of the country recently and it was very helpful getting the views of MNrs - it confirmed my nagging doubts about the other place and helped us enormously. Thanks!

We are in the process of moving to Northiam from nearby Rye. We love the area! Bodiam Castle is nearby which is fab for kids! How old are yours? Where are you moving from? Pm me if you like :)

Northiam is a big village, and typically all the villages round there have a strong community feel, with a lot going on. I second the Bodiam castle recommendation. Northiam also has a station on the steam railway, which my little nephews absolutely love (apparently, there are regular commuters on the train into the town of Tenterden - wonderful way to travel to work!). Northiam is a bit better value for money than the villages north of the river Rother because it is just outside the Cranbrook grammar school catchment area. The café/ bakery in Northiam is really good! The village shop has also recently been taken over by Jempson's, which is a local chain of good supermarkets.

It's a beautiful area with lots to do (beaches, riding, gardens, dogs) if you are into rural living.

Hmmm, perhaps not so good after all :(
