Ebay recommendations??

I'm trawling through old posts at the moment for kitchen and bathroom recommendations - for taps, worktops, tiles, flooring etc and there seem to be many suggestions / recommendations for Ebay. How do you know how good they are? I've done quite a bit of ebay buying and found it a bit hit and miss. Any advice, particularly when the purchases are for more expensive items etc that I don't want to get wrong.

Thanks

We bought a lot of things off ebay when doing our kitchen and bathroom years ago! I just read the feedback carefully to make sure they sent out decent materials and ideally collected the items myself so I could check them over.

That's a really good idea about collection - it saves on postage costs too. My friend has had a bad experience recently with something arriving damaged and it all got a bit stressful.

I've bought loads on ebay for our house renovation from windows to shower doors, taps and radiators, so far no issues. (Touch wood!)

Read feedback, pay by pay pal etc you should be ok and if not you have some recourse.

I probably wouldnt buy a boiler though. If think twice about white goods too unless super cheap as I'd want a manufacturer guarantee

We went along to somewhere like wickes and viewed a lot of things in the flesh and then searched for them by brand name and description on ebay. Plus as others have said check the feedback.

Plumbworld often sell clearance stock on ebay, and it comes from their normal warehouse with normal paperwork and guarantee, I have had some first-class bargains from them. They do also sell Clearance off their own website, but I presume ebay widens the customer base, and I have them as one of my preferred sellers so I get a notification when they put stock up.

I would be very suspicious of ebay sellers in general if I wanted something which was perfect, undamaged, and guaranteed, or which cost more than I could afford to tip down the drain. I would expect damaged stock to be at a greatly reduced price. Many sellers are honest and doing their best, but you are taking a risk.

I also sometimes sell old stock, I am very particular and have a modest but very good feedback and offer a limited return and refund policy. I have occasionally replaced things which did not work on arrival.

Many thanks Pigletjohn. Great advice.
