Can a cat flap be fitted in a glass double glazed door?

As the question asks, can a cat flap be fitted in a glass double glazed door? There is already a door fitted, so I guess we either need a new door or the present glass taken out and new glass put in with a fitted cat flap

we did this - ordered one from a glazier, they measured up and then bought out a new unti with the hole already cut and swapped the bottom panel.

I think you'll need to get the glass taken out. We had new French doors recently and they had to have the hole cut as they were manufacturing them and then put the cat flap in afterwards.

Thanks for your replies. Can either of you give me a rough idea of how much you paid? I know it won't be cheap, but we are lucky to be buying a house and this and the shed are the only main expenses for a few years.

I have been looking into this as we will need to do this in the house we are hopefully buying. After googling around I have budgeted 300 to do this for a full length glazed door. It is pricy but there is no alternative for us except the front door or the wall.
FYI you should get to keep the old panel so you can always put it back in if you sell (and can be bothered!).

We have done both and I prefer the through the wall option. Cost me £150 for a half door panel which I thought was pretty good! But was very draughty and cold compared to my last house where we put a tunnel through the wall and had a flap at both ends. We're going through the wall again now we've lost the kitchen door. I still have the glazing panel with the hole, keep meaning to stick it on free cycle!

we're having new french windows installed this week

Instead of a full length glazed unit, there will be a small plastic section at the bottom of each door (you could do it with wood too) & the cat flap will be fitted in that

oh, but you can't do that if you already have a full-length pane...

I had to have a leaded double glazed unit replaced and a cat flap installed. It was £300.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Our present cat flap is in the wall, but the floor height in the room we'd like the cat flap is quite high compared to ground level so would have to have some sort of platform put in if we went down that route. There are two steps up the French doors (top step quite wide) so this seems the best option.

We're quite lucky to be buying somewhere that doesn't need any work (other than a shed, cat flap and decorating although this is fresh), so we can cope with the expense.
