I'm having the sitting room plastered tomorrow. I need to remove a radiator, can you see where this is going? Do I have to turn the water off at the mains, drain the boiler and all stuff like that...Confused, or can individual radiators be isolated? You were the 1st person I thought to ask so TIA.

The system does not need to be drained. There is a valve at each end of the radiator. Both of them need to be screwed down tightly closed, then the radiator can be disconnected, lifted off, and quickly turned upside down so that it doesn't spill dirty water all over your floor. Move it (preferably outdoors) and empty it into a bucket. If the water is black, hose out the radiator in the garden and make a note to have your system cleaned and inhibitor added.

Black or brown radiator water forms an immovable permanent stain on carpets.

You will need someone who can do simple plumbing work.

Decorators are required to know how to do decorating work, which is not the same. They may prefer to work round the radiator while it is fixed to the wall.

Thank you, thank you. I knew I could count on you for advice! My nephew is coming down in the morning to do the radiator before the plasterer arrives. Thanks again PigletJohn.
