Is Catford/Bellingham Road up and coming? Will it ever be?

Hi Guys,

I've just had an offer accepted on a £400k 3 bed terraced 1930's property on Bellingham Road, Catford.
One local described it as the nice part of Catford :-) It is a mere 10 seconds walk from Forster Memorial Park and 8 mins walk to Bellingham Station.
After 4 months of making offers, being gazumped and outbid by cash buyers and investors; I was pleased to have this/any offer accepted.

I was hoping that someone could provide me with some advice as to whether Catford can be considered as up and coming? Are there any plans to develop the shopping centre? I hear the reason Catford is taking so long to come up is that much of the land has various owners thus gaining permission is an issue. I guess the fact that I'm paying £400k for a Catford property is indication enough.

Any feedback on the area in general or specifically Bellingham Road would be greatly appreciated.

Zombie thread - that explains the house prices quoted. I was amazed! Have lived not a million miles from Catford since the mid 80s. I went to the M&S there on my first visit to Catford, but by my second visit it had closed.

Wasn't there talk of the Bakerloo line extending to Catford from Elephant and Castle via Old Kent Road and New Cross? Have lost track of where that's got to.

No idea where Catford regeneration may have got to, but one thing's for sure, the giant cat has to stay.

I didn’t see the date on the OP and was very excited when somebody a few posts down announced that the South Circular was being rerouted. I live in Forest Hill and can confirm that 7 years later, the South Circular is in exactly the same place.

I think the Bakerloo extension to Catford will be much the same as when I bought my flat in Woolwich when they’d just announced the building of Crossrail with Woolwich as a station on the line, in 2008. I sold up in Woolwich in 2020, and Crossrail still wasn’t open.

Think at best they might still be aiming for New across Gate and Lewisham. I am not convinced at all that they'll get the funding for it although I do think the mayor has ringfenced some land.

Yes, I did move to Catford and have been there since 2014. Funny thing is my 3 bed terrace on Bellingham Rd, was for sale as I was planning on moving to Broadstairs. I’m currently away on the trip right now but promise to do a write up once I’m back. Will aim for the weekend xx
