Has anyone taken up the £500 for home improvements within 12 months of moving and can explain the process to me ? TIA

Never heard of this so waiting for others to come along too.

The scheme is only active I believe from later this month so you may be better seeing yourself as a pioneer. Assuming you're talking about the new Home Improvement Fund.

we're just looking into this; there don't seem to be too many provider/installers (what's the difference?!) near us, DH is going to make some calls tomorrow to see if we can get a quote/advice, I believe that is the start of the process...

The website isn't that useful for finding installers that's for sure. We've only got 8 weeks before our 12 months are up so I think we'll have to go with our current planned installer (who we're very happy with - we're going to shop around for the boiler he recommends and he'll install). From our epc the only thing we can do to get the second required improvement is to insulate the floors (crazy - dig up concrete floors to relay them along with new woodwork and doors I don't think so!) Or put more insulation in the roof (which would require taking up the boarding, putting joist blocks everywhere to increase the space, filling and reboarding - again not appealing). We've double glazing and cavity wall. Were hoping to out in solar water but that's not covered.

Please keep us posted on what you learn though - it's not so much the money saved for me, it's more you can spend the saving on improving energy efficiency (which let's face it always comes at some cost or we'd all be doing it)

Just been reading up on this, sounds potentially good. But the websites a bit confusing.

Do you have to pay out first and claim back or will they give you the money or carry out the works first? I'd be worried about not being able to claim it back you see.

Pay first and claim back. If you hadn't the money to fully pay up front then it can be combined with green deal finance.

It's the having to use an installer from a list I can't seem to filter (on my phone at least) by where I live. oh well. I'll ask my man and see what he thinks...
