Planning permission question

MIL's neigbours have extended their kitchen. Trouble is that one of the windows on the side overlooks MIL's patio. The window us very close to the boundary so not great for privacy however when plans were approved by the council the condition was that said window had to be frosted glass. Only when window was put in a few days ago "clear glass" was used instead. MIL very upset. I told her I would not do anything for now and wait for building control to sign off on the work, hopefully they will notice and tell them to change the glass. MIL is worried about her relationdhip with the neigbours but she does not want the clear glass overlooking her patio. Any advice? Thank you

Get your mil to have a word with your neighbour. Along the ljnes of has the builder cocked up? Its easy enough to fix and can buy sheets to lay over the glass to frost it.

Building control only check things like fire safety, they don't check planning permission adherence. So, your MIL should speak to neighbours or report to planning dept at count.

At council I meant! And I've had very recent experience of this so don't expect BC to be any help.

Trouble is that MIL does not want to upset her neighbours. I she seems to think the neighbour does not want frosted glass. If it were me I would talk to the neighbours. I have offered but she said no.

It is so hard but better to tackle now than be annoyed/upset forever!

I think the first reply is an excellent tactic: ooh isn't it looking lovely, you must be really pleased. But it looks like they put clear glass in the window instead of frosted - are they coming back to fix it? If not, I know my daughter's friend used some clever stick on film which works just as well. I can ask her for the details of where to get it from if you like? etc.

And then if they say, "we're not going to change it", then your MIL has to decide if she wants to say something about feeling like being in a goldfish bowl!

Thanks for the advice. Will try the did they forget about the frosted glass tactics and see what they say. So hope they do not intend to leave it like that. I don't think they would intentionally have breached planning in the hope MIL would not report it back to the council because she is old and on her own.
