Tell me about the colour (exterior) of your house

We are planning to get our 1920s house painted. Currently the pebble dash is in a horrible dirty beige from probably 40 years ago and the brickwork is in a dirty rusty red. Keen to find classic colours, probably white or off white for the masonry and something contrasting for the brick work.

I would love to hear about the colours of your house!

We have just painted our 16th century cottage the palest pink, really white with a hint of pink - looks very nice, we are pleased. It has a black border around the base, in common with many old cottages. Twas a bugger of a job though as render was very uneven and DH is knackered! It was a Dulux masonery paint, can't remember name.

Idespair, this sounds lovely! I love pastel colours on certain styles of houses!
I might have to have a browse on Rightmove for some inspiration..

15 year old newish-build in a row of 5 on an old colliery yard. Sandstone type stone facing. Recently painted front door, garage (at front) and back door red. We are the rebels in the corner of a row of white doors!!!

We have a typical 30s house, it's currently yellow and the brickwork is black.

We're hoping to redecorate it this summer and we're looking at a clotted cream style colour or my personal favourite- a pastel blue. If we did blue we would stay with black brickwork. If we went with the cream we would paint the brickwork a rust red.

it is best not to paint brick in particular, and pebbledash if it is over brickwork.

pebbledash above, eroded paint will wash down in rain and stain the bricks.

bricks because (1) if they are in good condition they do not need to be painted and (2) if they are in bad condition they should be repaired and repainted, then (1) applies; and (3) if you paint bricks once, you will have to continue regularly repainting them for ever.

our new house is just red brick as is a new house, old house was clotted cream dulux masonry paint with black around bottom and black door. Looked tres smart.

Sounds like the brick is already pa

Painted? Our house is white, with black contrasting band round the bottom. Mostly rendered, but the brickwork was painted white (not by me). I wish we still had pristine brickwork.

You have a point Pigletjohn, but unfortunately brickwork and pebbledash was already painted to begin with. I really like it when it's not painted but alas...

Our house is green (avocado) with yellow (gold) trim, deck railings and garage door. I think we tested at least 10 colours before deciding and our deck flooring has all the test colours in a sort of patchwork as we still haven't decided what looks best. The painter was very dubious!

Our old house in the UK was white on all the render (brickwork london yellow).
