I'd say look at Harborne as south side of the city is easy for the Women's Hospital. I'm sure there will be someone else with more local knowledge (I'm in Worcs so quite close) but it might be worth posting in Chat too for more traffic.

Moseley is lovely. Has a nice villagey feel. Probably about half way between the two hospitals, too. Selly Park is nice, as are parts of Kings Heath.

Thanks suze28 as grow up in Northern Ireland feel like Birmingham is too big for me and having my two ill boys feels like moving to a big place is terrifying. But thanks xx

The good catholic ones can be hard to get into. If you are worried about Birmingham being big, look at Bournville - near Women's Hospital. Transport is good so also think about Acocks Green (nearer Heartlands) and Solihull.

Mumjojo1 If you do a search on here there are quite a few threads about moving to Birmingham and lots of recommendations.
It can be scary moving to a new place. How old are your boys? You say they are due to start in Sept, I'm wondering if there might be a potential problem finding a school with available places as all offers will have been made and accepted by now.

Suze28, boys are 4yrs and that is the issue to think about. Thanks xx

I certainly think Bournville, Cotteridge or some parts of Kings Norton, dependent on budget, would be a good choice for you. Harborne can be pricey, but is very well served for shops, restaurants, etc. Primary schools in these areas are, in general, very good. Happy to help further if you need more advice Smile.

PrincessOfChina · 14/06/2014 20:52

We're in Cotteridge, on the borders of Bournville. Happy to advise if you choose round here but we love it for community spirit, great transport and good schools.

You won't get into Bournville Infants now but Cotteridge and Kings Norton are both good schools. Secondaries are excellent - Kings Norton Boys would be catchment for us or there's the grammar system.

The only thing you might struggle for is a semi - they're in pretty short supply as we're so close to the city. You're looking more at large terraces or huge detached houses.

Sorry- if they're starting this september... you'll have a hell of a wait for a school place anywhere in Birmingham LA.
Perhaps try Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull?
Did you say your boys are ill? Aren't they under the childrens hospital rather than Heartlands?

Fram · 14/06/2014 20:55

Which part of Liverpool are you moving from, for comparison?
And what is your rental budget pcm?

InspirationFailed · 14/06/2014 20:57

Olton (Solihull) is nice, and an easy journey to Heartlands ( half my family work at Heartlands!) decent schools too.

LadyKooKoo · 14/06/2014 21:14

Traffic near the women's hospital can be a nightmare so I would suggest somewhere on the trainline to Birmingham University which is only a 10 minute walk to the hospital and then somewhere that is close enough to drive to Heartlands. Where will you be spending most of your time?
