How do you arrange a home appointment with Ikea kitchen designer?

It would be the Croydon store if that's relevant.

We need someone to come out to our house as the space is awkward. Do you have to go into Ikea to arrange the visit or can you do it over the phone? Being lazy as I've heard you wait ages on the Ikea telephone system for someone to answer.

And if anyone has used them before, any good? We got a design off of Howdens but weren't impressed. Hoping Ikea's greater flexibility will be able to make more of the space.

Thanks.

Annoyingly you have to ring the head office number and they will take details and get a designer to call back. Bit of a faff.

The designer who came out was good but our kitchen is very straightforward (2 sides of a square) and we had a good idea of what we wanted which may have helped. Their new Metod range does seem to be much more flexible and we have managed to squeeze a sink into a space I thought was far too small so would recommendthem. It cost £50 so you have to be pretty sure you want the kitchen to make it worthwhile.

thanks. I'm happy to pay £50 as we're pretty sure we want an Ikea kitchen.

I've tried planning around with their planner but can't figure out how to get our room shape. Not sure if their Mac version is less good than the PC one.

Ring between 9 and 10 they will answer pretty quickly at that time. Then ring every day till you get a call from the planner.

The service is worth the £50. My kitchen was installed a couple of weeks ago. If you want a decent service though I found I had to keep ringing ikea, the planners and the installation team. Things only seemed to progress each time I made a phone all.

I would advise against IKEA, I used the designer, the end product is not good, he made me waste so much money on wasted things, and it is still not finished from months ago, they and the firm they subcontract to, don't want to fix everything, they gloss over most of the issues and only want to fix the odd thing, all they want IKEA and the fitting team is to take your money, they don't care about the quality of the product you are left with, if it is functional, and I have been trippng over spare things for two months now, where they have not made an appointment with me, though someone turned up one day unannounced when it was inconvenient.

My advice hold back the money, and don't sign it off, no matter how much they bully you. I am glad I didn't, as I guess eventually they will want the money and it will be the only way to get functioning drawers that open, and sit properly and the job finihsed, including the decorating in another room due to them smashing in the wall because they didn't use the rails, which are rusting outsie my back door looking untidy, they won't pick up.

I have emailed and spoken to managers at IKEA it is a waste of time and all it does is gives you stress.

They know what the problems are, they just need to organise a date to come back that is convenient and all will be finished, somehow they don't want to do this adn I am not going to waste any more of my time chasing them with emails and phone calls to sort it out.

Thanks. Found out we need to go into the store to book an appointment for someone to come to our house as they don't take payments over the phone. The brilliant Ikea customer service in action.

We've got our own fitters lined up, I think, so won't need to use the Ikea service.

Hope your situation gets resolved soon Tired. That sounds very frustrating.

Which store are you buying from? I paid the planner cash when she came to the house.

ProtectTheMoomin · 13/06/2014 17:58

We used the on-line planner. DH spent hours working on it and is very precise about measuring.

The resulting kitchen is great. We used our own builders. There were hiccups along the way, which were stressful, but we have ended up with a good quality and resilient kitchen.

Get lots of drawers!

Croydon. Apparently you need to pay in advance and they don't take card payments.

Yes you have to pay for the units and installation of the units in advance, the extra's like moving pipes you pay to the fitters.
