wall units to the ceiling

I have pored over lessons learned threads and taken away the idea of wall units to the ceiling. I will be having plain slab doors but will need 2 units given that the ceilings are 2.6m and I'm worried that it will be overwhelming.

Wwyd / have you done.... It's 5m run with a 2.5m island in front.

I have a 5m Kitchen with 3.6m of floor to ceiling cupboards

I used 3 units for each vertical and interspersed some open shelves to 'lift' it

We are keeping away from wall units as they seem to make the work surface space underneath less usable...may regret this though as it's not the largest of kitchens.

We have floor to ceiling cupboards on one wall. The ceiling is 12ft high. It's the only wall without windows or an external door.

We're having floor to ceiling for part of the L shaped kitchen (along one wall) then no wall units at all on the other wall (would be difficult anyway as there are windows in that wall). I think as long as you have a light colour it will be fine.

We have floor to ceiling units on one wall and wall units on the other. The wall units are hung high and go up to the ceiling and the look is definitely better IMO. The only problem you must keep in mind that the vast majority of ceilings are not straight and so you'll probably need some sort of trim.

We don't have floor to ceiling, but we do have wall cabinets mounted fairly high, and they are extra tall ones (90cm). Then there is just enough space at the top for the ducting for the extractor hood, which is hidden with cornicing. The only down-side is that I can't reach all the shelves so will need to buy a small set of steps. The plus-side is that we can now actually fit everything we need in the cupboards.
Another option would be to mount some cabinets as dressers on part of your worktop. I've definitely seen some of this going on in an Ikea brochure, where they had 2 or more dresser-type cabinets stacked up to the ceiling. Dresser cabinets are normally taller (120cm) so another option could be to mount some of these as wall cabinets - though this would require some adjustment on the part of your kitchen fitter which they may or may not be happy with (they are not designed to hang on the wall so do not come with the necessary fittings etc).
