What do you think is better?

Karndean - ceramic tiles are so cold!

Rooble · 09/06/2014 19:55

And if you're clumsy (like me) everything breaks when it hits a hard ceramic floor. (Voice of bitter experience)

I'd go Karndean all the way. Much warmer and softer to walk on. I had it in my old house for over ten years, one patch by a door was a little faded if you looked closely. Otherwise it was pristine.

Karndean- ours is being installed next week. We had it at our old house and it was great! It has a 20yr guarantee too.

We had Karndeapn in our old kitchen which was good, although it did get a bit dented by the metal legs on our kitchen table. We have recently put Amtico in our new utility room. We chose Amtico this time purely because we preferred the shade. I do prefer the look of this particular Amtico tile to our old Karndean (which was very similar).

Ps I definately wouldn't want ceramic tiles, too cold, too noisy and very unforgiving if you drop something.

evertonmint · 09/06/2014 20:15

Our old kitchen had ceramic tiles (not our choice) which not only broke things when dropped, but also cracked themselves from the impact. And they were cold and looked really dirty all the time somehow.

Our Karndean floor is just soon much better in every way - hides dirt a bit more (not that I want dirty, but I don't want to see every last water mark), is cosier underfoot, and things don't break as easily.

"Karndean" appear to sell wood, stone or vinyl flooring! What sort are you talking about OP? I think it depends on the value of the house. Absolutely NO to vinyl if you are in an expensive house or neighbourhood. We have ceramic tiles in the kitchen and hall areas with underfloor heating. Not cold at all. My tiles look exactly like limestone and really work with my kitchen units. Vinyl would cheapen the whole effect.

I'm another one who has tiled floors. Most of the grough nd floor is tiled, with underfloor electric heating. When the heating is on, the tiles are lovely and warm to walk on, but it's not on very much as it's very expensive to run.

I do prefer the appearance and feel of real tiles though, even though they are cold underfoot.

IHeartKingThistle · 09/06/2014 23:47

We love our Karndean. Nice and warm and childproof.

BrianTheMole · 09/06/2014 23:48

I don't like it that much. Its been down 8 years and parts of it are peeling. But thats maybe my fault for not following the care system for it, which seemed like hard work to me.

MissMilbanke · 09/06/2014 23:52

What would your cut off value for lino be Milly ?

Genuinely interested as about to have kitchen extension and fitters are suggesting Karndean or Amtico instead of tiles.
