Updating / Painting Pine Wardrobe

I have a pine wardrobe (large with two doors and two big drawers underneath) very non-descript standard '90s looking.

I am going to be moving my baby DS into the room where it resides in a couple of months and was thinking of painting the wardrobe white (while leaving the knobs and plinths (sorry not sure of terminology) pine).

Is this a good idea? Has anyone done this and can you give me any advice please? I am also wondering if I should use a shade of white or colour rather than pure white.

I am thinking of painting the walls a very pale grey, skirting white and will definitely be leaving the wooden floor as it is (natural).

I would be very grateful for any advice.

Sounds lovely. Have heard Annie Sloan (I think?) paints are v. good.

sounds nice.

i did similar with some cupboards and bought some lovely green glass door knobs to give them an updated look.

i think pale grey and natural wood floor will look good. i guess as for leaving the knobs and plinths pine would depend on the varnish that's on there now. does it go with the floor? in which case, leave it. just white doors will look lovely.

Yes we did this on our wardrobes with a Farrow and Ball paint, Old White. Just a light sand before, it took one coat, really quick and looks as good as the chests of drawers we bought ready painted from the shop. And we left the plinths and tops exactly as they were.

I second Annie Sloan paint with some kind of wax or sealant on top, I find distressing it after always looks nice. If you are distressing it, I find a coat of primer so the white shows through nicer.
Enjoy!

If the wardrobe is destined to stay in a child's room you might want to consider a more durable finish such as satinwood, which will wipe clean like gloss paint but has a subtle sheen to it.

I've used annie sloan in my bedroom and found it goes on easily but equally it is coming off easily. It's ok for a quick fix but not durable.

I painted our pine furniture with Dulux satinwood in a pale grey colour and added some new knobs from Laura Ashley. They look great.

Thank you very much for the tips.

The Annie Sloan chalk paint looks beautiful. I will look into it and check out durability.

Otherwise I might just stick to satinwood. Not adventurous but maybe longer lasting.

I appreciate the tips.
