A big curly spout?
A bridge?
A spray?
A hose?
kitchen is a simple wooden painted affair with pale granite worktops.
There's too much choice.

We chose the Franke Olympus tap. It's a simple swan neck style, looks very elegant (I think). Very pleased with it.

Have a look at MGS. Beautiful.

I have this one www.mgstaps.com/kitchen/789/general

Its elegant but still has a pull out spout with a spray but looks refined unlike most of the pull outs.

It's immensely practical as well as beautiful.

Oh and I have a Fast Flow filter fitted under the sink so all my water is filtered without the need for ugly extra taps on top. All in one solution.

Argh

It's the MGS Spin D I have. Not the Spin E

It's this one www.mgstaps.com/kitchen/3175/general

It has a pullout hose and spray function.

the simpler the tap, the less likely it will go wrong.

Joystick taps are especially troublesome.

For some reason, taps with square bodies, sharp edges and protruding rods are considered fashionable. They will however be awkward, and sometimes uncomfortable, to use.

If you have a water tank in the loft, buy a British design of tap designed for low pressure. I especially like Bristan.

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 04/06/2014 16:50

Thanks all. It's a high pressure system. The kitchen people rate Franke (apparently made by Perrin & Rowe) so the Olympus looks a good bet.

The Olympus tap comes with an optional separate spray attachment for washing veg etc. It would require an extra hole cut out as it is completely separate. We did consider that option but as we had one in our kitchen and hardly ever used it it seemed a bit pointless.

Thanks girls, oddly enough I was talking to the builder about a spray attachment. He seems to think they often kink & go wrong, unless you have a very heavy & expensive one.
I'm a fan of plain & simple.

Put a Brita one in yesterday with an inbuilt water filter tap. So far tis brill and was about 150. Nice height and sticks out over the sink far enough that you can fill the kettle without angling it awkwardly.
We used to have a Franke one. It didn't point directly downwards but sort of stood up like an erection so if you knocked the lever in the wrong way, you'd get soaked. Grin

Girlsbrigadewashorrible · 04/06/2014 20:51

Sorry that should have read previous kitchen! I think our previous tap was also Franke. The spray attachment never kinked, but our water pressure isn't great so the spray was a bit underwhelming. Funnily enough, our new tap delivers greater water pressure.

charlieandlola · 04/06/2014 22:58

I've used Franke Olympus taps in my last 2 kitchens and have them now in kitchen and utility. Practical - can fit huge pots underneath them that don't fit in the dishwasher and I like the champagne spray, so you don't get soaked.

My friend swears by Carron Phoenix and another by Astracast .
