My husband and I have seen a house that I've completely fallen in love with, despite the fact it is completely the opposite of what I thought I wanted......low maintenance, modern, open plan, energy efficient.....

Am I being a complete idiot?

I think its stunning, I can see why you love it I heard you get big spiders in thatch so that would put me off as Im pathetic. I lived in a similar style cornish building and it wasnt ever really hot or cold due to the thick walls. Lots of villages dont have gas as you will know so if you want Central heating you will probably need oil.
I would just want to go there at different times to see how many people walk past peering in and how much traffic in the summer. Plus it doesnt mention off road parking - although it looks like you may be able to park outside?

Have you got children? The lay out of the bedrooms is rubbish if so, unless you have a couple of teens and want to be away from them ... With no loo near your bedroom.

Gorgeous but no garden would rule it out for me.

Even in lovely Feock I think it is a tad overpriced because of the lack of outside space and parking. Thatched cottages with tiny windows were designed to house people who had spent a hard day working outside and had no need or desire for addtional daily doses of uv. I would want to be absolutely certain that the patch of garden was south facing so I could sip a cup of coffee/glass of wine in the sunshine in relative privacy. Otherwise you are entirely dependent on the pretty interior to sustain you and your family all year round. I live in cornwall and know how many days per year are gloomy and damp. The low natural light levels and lack of private outside space may ultimately be frustrating. I have also lived in property that directly fronted a public footpath, with no parking. It was OK when child less but a pain with a large supermarket shop to heave from boot to fridge. And an extra pain when large delivery vans parked up outside and blotted out even the little natural light I had to call my own.

I've not read the thread.

It is beautiful but..... having lived with storage heaters I would never entertain them again. I wouldn't expect there is gas to the property. I know that my folks get round this by having a gas tank in the garden. I don't think you would be able to get better heating installed without a lot of hassle and money.
There is no parking. There is nothing between the front of the house and the road.
One of the bedrooms would seem to be cut off from the others upstairs. How would that work with DC?
The garden is close to unusable.
