IKEA kitchen installation service

Is it worth going for this? I have been to several kitchen showrooms and nothing really grabs me the way ikea kitchens do. I realise a great part of it is the fantastic way in which ikea style the kitchen, the lighting they use and so on. But overall, i think they have several advantages, such as the units being deeper, the vast range of accessories and of course the cost.

We just don't want to project manage the whole thing so, is it worth going for their instalation service? I've heard is very expensive, is that right? Do they also do gas and electrics, or is is just fitting the units? We would also want to have it installed during the first couple of weeks in August, do you think we are likely to be too late for this?

Thank you and sorry for the many questions!

We used their fitting service. They don't do gas or electrics, you need to get an points moved before they fit the kitchen and then the wiring of appliances etc on the day they finish fitting the kitchen.

It cost around the same price again as the kitchen purchase itself. So we paid around £2,500 for the kitchen itself and around £2,200 for the fitting.

They fitted our kitchen around 8 weeks after ordering. We had to have the entire kitchen cleared for them. They delivered the kitchen on the Friday and fitted it the following week.

Go into your store with all your measurements, you have to do this yourself, make full notes of where water/gas/electricity supplies are. Make sure you account for end panels (decorative waterproof panels that go on the end of cabinets/cupboards). We didn't and had to leave them off (they're in the shed) because our cupboards wouldn't fit in the space with them on. As a result the cupboards have peeled away on the ends and they wont change them because it was our fault for not putting the end panels on.

When you order in store they go through your design with you on the pc and they give you a delivery date of your new kitchen. If you want them to fit it for you they will send someone out later in the week to check your measurements.

They took a payment in full in the store for the kitchen units, then we paid a deposit for fitting to the chap that came out to check our measurements and paid the remainder to the chap that fitted the kitchen.

The kitchens look fab when new but mines been in 4 or 5 years now and its looking very tired with the doors peeling and cracks have appeared around the decorative moulding and edges. The glass has started to come lose in the windows too so they've had to be glued back in. We had a problem with the tap leaking but couldn't get a replacement because the type we purchased isn't made anymore and none of the new ones fit the old sink styles. We ended up with an entire new sink and tap unit because of the difference in size between UK taps and IKEA sizes, we just couldn't get new parts to fit not even from IKEA. But I love my real wood worktop. Its regularly polished and oiled and still looks beautiful.

Ikea kitchens are a really good price but you definitely get what you pay for. I do still like my kitchen it still looks lovely but when you get close up you notice all the cracks forming and the glue has started to yellow in some places.

They have updated their fitting service now. They do everything including gas, electric and plumbing. They also have a planning service. I paid £50 for someone to come out and measure up. She then asked me what style I wanted and went through some ideas with me.

The service was brilliant, I went into the store to see the plans and change a couple if bits. It's being delivered tuesday day and fitted next week. I only ordered about 10 days ago.

Kitchen plus appliances are 7400 and fitting is 3600.

We just had ours done.
We paid £50 to get it planned and then going the kitchen.
Dh put all the units together and our builder fitted it.
It took 1.5 weeks because we had an issue with the electrics and he had to re plaster the whole kitchen :( so that added on 2 days.
He charged us £1200 to fit it, so less than half what ikea quoted.
We got our plumbing and electrics done first so didn't enquire whether ikea did it or not.

We did ours just after Christmas (the old style faktum range I think they have changed it since) and got a local builder to install it for less than half what ikea wanted, might be worth while shopping around!
