New kitchen: does the flooring go first and under the units?

Builders about to start on kitchen extension. When the time comes, what goes in first, the flooring or the kitchen units? Does the flooring go all to wall or just up to the kickboards?
Thanks!

floor first, it's not in mine but will be when it's refitted.

Ours is all the way under the island and a few inches under the kickboards and all the way under thewhite goods (which all sit on teeny pieces of upside down carpet so they are easy to slide)

the long wall with the cooker will always have units no matter what sort of kitchen there is so it seemed sully to put planks under there

Thank you all so much! Especially to those of you who bravely shared your tales of woe. OK- so I'm getting the floor in first and wall-to-wall. Thanks again.

Your next challenge is to make sure they get the tiles straight, so they don't go off at an angle from the kick boards once the kitchen is fitted.

Still annoys me every time I walk into the kitchen.

thanks again, all!

Beryl - I think we had a similar experience. Back wall of Victorian terrace and internal walls - none were straight. Poor tiler.

I've had three kitchens fitted. It's always been flooring to the legs of the cabinets (so behind the kick boards) and under appliances but not under cabinets.

Ours is wall to wall.

Your kitchen fitters will need to take extra care so that your flooring is not damaged when the kitchen is installed.

You may find kitchen fitters would prefer your floor to go down last and indeed will tell you that is the way it must be, as that way they can crash around dropping stuff and dragging appliances around and not have to bother too much. But it's not about what's easiest for them.

Our builders laid this stuff called coredec (?) over our floor to prevent any damage. It came in sheets and was very robust, sort of like corrugated plastic. There was no damage to the floor.

yes, have had that, though it was branded Wickes.
