Wire floorboards yay or nay?

Hi
Thinking of painting old tired floorboards white though I don't intend to stay forever in this house so does it appeal to people or would it put people off

I would probably keep down stairs stained dark but was considering white upstairs bedrooms would be white with nice rugs?

Also kitchen in this house is 7 years old and still very nice it was part of a extension as its terraced... But how often do kitchens get replaced I don't think I would do it anyway as I only plan to stay for 4-5 years to complete my post grad training but I'm just curious after reading thread on bespoke kitchens

Any opinions

You could consider a white stain on the floor board which might be easier to remove/sand back. I've seen people paint them before and although they look great when they are first done they can deteriorate pretty quickly and look a lot less great when they are chipped!

Our kitchen is 15 years and still going. Ok it's not perfect but I think it's still got a few years left! We went for something fairly simple hoping that it wouldn't date too quickly. I think 7 years for a kitchen is young.

I think around 15 years for an off the shelf kitchen (obviously there's a bit of variance as some are better quality than others and some styles date faster than others). A bespoke kitchen should last a lifetime. Im putting in a mid range kitchen. Im too fickle to have one that lasts a lifetime.

If the kitchen is looking tired when you come to sell you could maybe just replace the doors.

The painted floorboards wouldn't appeal to me, personally. I'd probably carpet over them.

Agree with replacing doors on kitchen.

Don't paint floorboards. I would sand/stain or carpet them.

Having just renovated a house I know how hard paint is to get off floorboards. Don't be tempted to sand floorboards your self though. Get a professional with a good reputation. Its cheaper than putting a good quality carpet down.

Nah, paint them. Mine look lovely and I haven't redone them in years. We have grey downstairs and white upstairs. Staining only really works well if your boards are nice, and mine are manky manky. We have giant area rugs in the bedrooms and big runners on the landing/in the hall. For comparison the cheapest carpet I could get my hands on for two bedrooms cost me the best part of 400 in carpet, underlay, gripper rods and fitting. I spent a fair bit on underlay as the bedrooms were in the loft and NOISY, but still, the carpet was only 5 a metre. In comparison, quite 'naice' laminate, cost about the same for a 30sqm kitchen diner and a mudroom, including decent fibre board underlay. Painting is by far the cheapest option and does allow you to change things up with different rugs fairly regularly.
