Dark Painted Kitchen Island

I'm am replacing my kitchen. I am planning a painted skaker door. I am thinking of having a dark grey/almost black colour on the island with the remaining units in either light grey or white. Has anyone done something similar? How does the dark paint wear? I have been advised that the dark paint can mark/chip more noticeably than a lighter colour.

How do people feel about mixing two different colours of quartz worktops? If I go for white rather than light grey on the lighter units I am having difficulty finding one worktop that will work on the whole kitchen.

All opinions and advice apprectated. Ive got one chance to get this right.

Worktops:

I think two colours of quartz would be ok, but mostly when I have seen peoples kitchens with different worktops they have been totally different.

For example: my parents kitchen has a Matt black granite worktop on the main units and the island unit has a thick oak block worktop.

It works well together.

Darker island colour will be nice against lighter units.

How about keeping all floor units including the island one colour (the darker colour) and choose a lighter colour for the wall units?

People have painted black or dark colours all the time.
If you like it do it

Worktops: I agree with Beaver I'd go for two very different colours or all the same. If you have two colours nearly the same it could look like one is just grubby.

Dark island could look nice I think - a friend's kitchen has this and it looks good. Makes the island more like a piece of furniture iyswim.

Have you seen the 1909 kitchen range. That's what your post reminds me of. Will try a link

Thats it pinkje. Thats the picture I'm carrying around in my handbag looking a kitchen showrooms lol!

There is a worktop I love by silestone that is very similar to the marble on that kitchen. It looks fabulous against the dark doors but not great on white cabinets.

This is what 2 different worktops look like LINK. I am having trouble convincing dh to consider it.

The other problem is that all of the pictures of this look are with a wooden floor. I want tiles and was hoping for a slightly warmer colour to take the cool edge off. The warmer tiles dont seem to work well with the marble like silestone. A wood worktop would look great but I know we'd wreck it.

First world problems, I know, but I have myself going round in circles.

I was going to have a darker island but I had enough trouble trying to pick one colour never mind two.

I thought my cupboards would be a pale grey/ off white with a dark grey island but all the pale colours I liked made the flagstone floor look really yellow. In the end I went for Hardwick White. In the future I would consider painting the island a different colour as I really like that look but for now I am happy with it. That's the beauty of a hand painted kitchen.

As for the worktops I did consider going for two colours but ended up sticking to honed granite all over. My kitchen island is fairly big and has a sink so I wanted granite on that. One wall has a range cooker in the middle and the other wall contains a larder, double fridge freezer and housekeeper cupboard, so not much worktop on display. I thought that having another type of worktop would look strange as there wasn't going to be a decent amount on show. However if you have a decent run I think having two colours could look good.
