Anyone had a mortgage appt lately? What are the new questions?

I rang up NatWest today about a mortgage and they've given a provisional yes. They can't offer me a full phone appt till June! They've said it'll take two hours. What on earth are they asking these days?

The mortgage I need is only for 18% of the value of the property and they know this so I can't imagine I need to be quizzed in depth about outgoings??

The actual questions will vary from lender to lender, but yes be prepared to fully disclose all your income and outgoings, and be able to provide proofs and bank statements.

They are checking affordability, and loan to value has no bearing on your ability to repay the mortgage payments.

Extra questions we got asked were cost of council tax, buildings insurance and travelling to work costs. I think childcare costs is a biggie too but we have not had to worry about that yet

Oh and life insurance cover too

I got asked "Are there any foreseeable changes in your circumstances which might impact your ability to repay the mortgage?"

So I told them I was pregnant. I didn't really have to share it but thought it was best to be honest, specially if I have to ask for an extension of the offer and then show them my payslips with "SMP" written all over them...

Well we caravan in be uk for holidays, I'm not fussed about clothes, no childcare and gifts just at Xmas. Hopefully will be ok.

We had to fill in a form that listed all of our outgoings... Childcare, travel, energy, food, going out, car costs, insurance, mobile phones etc. We had to list all assets and debts (including pension info). There were a couple of health questions but it was mainly financial.

It was a pain in the bum.
