Flooding in the New Forest

We are moving to the New Forest (Brockenhurst) soon. We have seen some houses with a small brook/stream running across their land. We have tried to research the area to see whether these houses flooded this year or last but nothing obvious online. We are obviously wary! The Environment Agency's website suggest parts of Brockenhurst are 'Level 3' and so at high risk.

Anyone local remember? Many thanks!

Don't buy a house in a high risk area. We were flooded out the year before last and it was a terrible experience.

Your solicitor should have ordered a FloodSearch for you, which will give you a good indication of the level of risk. The best one is from GroundSure and costs around £17. I hope you do find out you're not at risk, Brockenhurst is lovely!

We haven't put an offer on the house yet because of our concerns.

The Environment Agency says parts of Brockenhurst are high risk because of the river but this is just statistical data. However, having spoken to them and others in the town, I now understand that a house in the town hasn't been flooded for over 90 years. Also, the water drains away very quickly due to the man-made land drains. Phew!
