Anyone else moving in 3/4 weeks?

If anyone else is moving in 3/4 weeks, just wondering what stage you're at with the legal paperwork and what you've done re: packing.

As of today our solicitor has signed contracts and transfers for our sale and purchase, together with 10% cleared deposit, so we are ready to go. Apparently those above are ready. There was a delay at the bottom of the chain about 10 days ago, so will check with agent how this is progressing towards the end of the week. All parties are working towards completion on 28 May.

Over the last few weeks have had a good clear out of all cupboards, so what's in the house is what's going. Husband emptied the loft out for me to sort this week. We did car boot sale some of the things in the loft last year, but there's far more than I realized and it's everywhere. Have started writing letters on the computer to advise companies we will be moving, so they are ready to print as and when - done about 50% of them. Outside - had a really good tidy up in the garden last week. I plan to cut hedge between us and neighbour, cut the grass and pull the odd stray weed but that's it.

So much for exchanging this week Angry

Hold up seems to be because there is a deed missing for our buyers house and EA said they were speaking to her last night about indemnity insurance. We accepted her offer back in February so I'm a big pissed off that this has only just come up now!

Still no reply to our solicitor from the other solicitors higher up the chain about a completion date for half term - looking very unlikely now. Hubby is calling our solicitor later this morning for an update but she said she would let us know if she had any news so I don't think there will be any update Hmm

Feels like it is all slipping away....

Oh Gemma Sad so sorry!

Well we actually completed Friday as expected...SOOOO relived about that. Didn't pick up the keys til Saturday morning and went to have a look around...OMG the previous owners left the house in such a minging state I cannot even begin to describe! Today have cleaned what seemed like 5 years of grease and grime from the kitchen units...how I didn't notice that before I have no idea!

Currently too-ing and fro-ing (an hours drive) between the two to sort it all out before the big move on the 24th.. have left husband dealing with the wallpaper stripping right now!

Sorry to hear that Gemma, hope things get back on track for you. That's horrible Russell. I don't know how people can do that, I'd be too embarrassed to leave a house in such a state. We are still on track to complete on Friday. I am getting stressed with it all now and feeling knackered from what feels like weeks of packing. The house is a tip and I still have the kitchen to sort through. I need to do a thorough clean of the place too. Must go and motivate myself to get on now Smile

Gemma - fingers crossed they'll sort out the indemnity insurance soon. Don't know about you, our house is a complete mess with boxes everywhere and things down from the loft, but haven't got the energy to put it all away again.

Russell, we had the same as you when we purchased our house, luckily we had 24 hours before our furniture came out of store. It was disgusting (you don't realize what's lurking when you have a quick 20 min look around with the agent) - it's the one time my husband has stepped up and done some cleaning as he said he didn't want me even touching some of it. Wouldn't mind, but we had a phone call from our buyer to thank us for leaving it clean.

RussellBrandsEyeliner - congratulations!! You'll soon have your new house clean and sparkly and feeling like home Smile Really don't know how people can leave their houses in such a mess - I will be leaving mine immaculate... been cleaing out cupboards, the oven has had a deep clean for them and I was even thinking about re-turfing the back lawn where the trampoline was but DH says I am going too far!

Starfish - flipping boxes eh!! We have them in everyroom and I bang into the big ones on the landing most evenings! Still more boxes to pack but desperately waiting on exchange as I've convinced myself that I will jinx things if I pack most of it nowBlush

DH spoke to our solicitors this morning and warned her that we would be calling every day this week as we must exchange this week. She said we absolutely would be exchanging this week but I thought that last week... she is chasing up and down the chain again today. Thinks the indemnity isurance for our buyer's property can be sorted in 1 hour and that the final query from our sellers solicitor should arrive today.

It's going to feel like a very long week!!!

RussellBrandsEyeliner · 19/05/2014 17:14

Thank you all. Fingers crossed all goes well for you on Friday IHGO

Gemma77 hope you have had some further good news from solicitor today? the waiting is the worst bit X

starfish4 I'm disgusted with the previous owners I really am..I would be embarrassed and ashamed to leave a house in the condition they have left it.

I'm knackered hightailing it up there every day; hour and ten minutes there then back again plus lots of work when I arrive. I am aching like hell right now and enjoying some wine, sod that its a school night!

We still have quite a lot to do here packing-wise but DH is still staying at the new house another night... wallpaper stripping has uncovered further issues..holes in walls etc so we had to buy loads of polyfilla plus lining paper to go up in three (BIG) rooms today...I have left him there doing it. DD is sad as she misses him Sad

Todays tasks have been - mould/mildew remover on all the shower screens..I don't honestly think they have cleaned that ever! they will be replaced pronto!

There is still a lot to do.. not much time to do it all in either and to add to the mess I have to drive up to Farnham (from Plymouth) to attend my daughters graduation thingy on Thursday so DH has to be back here for my youngests school runs plus the remaining packing.

Life on the edge eh!

When we eventually move, our present house will be left how I'd like to find it - clean. Thinking we were moving, I'd already started wiping inside cupboards (luckily only a bit of dust at the back, no grease) and even got all the cobwebs out of the shed!

Luckily the couple we're buying off have a spotless home, so that's one thing we won't have to worry about.
