Furniture in front of radiator - yay or nay?

We have a reasonably spacious hallway but it feels much less so so due an awkwardly located radiator. It's in the perfect place for some storage that we desperately need. We had a few quotes for moving the radiator to the opposite wall but it's an expensive and messy job that we're not going to do. The radiator has a thermostatic valve and the central heating is controlled by a wall thermostat in the living room. Would it be ok to turn it off and put our chosen furniture in from of it? The hallway doesn't get especially cold so it should be fine from that point of view but would it mess up the heating throughout the house and / or be very inefficient? Another option would be to remove completely but not replace the radiator I guess...?

Our hall radiator is turned very low with a shoe rack and coats hung in front of it. Doesn't cause a problem.

No point at all in wasting oil trying to heat our drafty North facing hall, it's always going to be freezing.

In the hall I would go ahead. If it was one of you main rooms maybe not. Our hall radiator is only on low anyway.

When we only want to heat certain rooms we always turn the other radiators down to very low. If you are certain you aren't going to want it then why not remove it all together.

How strange, I had the same conversation with my Mum the other day about moving the radiator to another wall or disposing of it altogether but she told me not to do it. Might just turn it right down then because we also have no storage due to an awkward placed radiator.

If you don't need it on for the warmth in the hallway it is quite alright to turn it off,it won't affect your heating system at all.

We had this. We just took out the radiator. (A plumber turned off valves & took rad off the wall- the pipes are still sticking up from the floor but behind the bit if furniture- cheapskate!)
Hall was colder than before.

Is it on an external wall? I only ask as we turned our hallway radiator off in our last house but then the wall started to feel damp. We had to put it back on.

Could a smaller or vertical radiator help?
