Soundproofing

DD's room shares a wall with the neighbours. It's currently painted brick (bleugh) and we're going to put plasterboard over the top. We'd like to put some soundproofing up first, though.

Our lovely local builder will do the plasterboard but wants us to decide on the soundproofing material ourselves.

Any recommendations? TIA

I'd definitely use a sound resistant plasterboard, they are at least 3 times more expensive than standard boards but it is worth it.
In my house I have used Rockwool slabs (they come in various thicknesses and specifications) and I am happy with them. I don't know anything about commercial standard soundproofing but I would encourage you to get the best you can afford because you don't want to throw good money after bad if the sound has not been reduced sufficiently.

I had this done. Tbh it hasn't really made much difference. Plasterer built a cavity, filled with insulating stuff, think it was rock wool and put acoustic plasterboard on top.

Hasn't really changed anything unfortunately. There are specialist who guarantee silence but it's about £1000 a wall.

Marking place as just about to embark on some soundproofing.
