Crying with frustration! House still not sold!

There is not really an answer for this but I need to get it off my chest!
Redecorated my house to put it on the market last July. Had an offer before it actually went on the market so delighted. That fell through in October, after inital disappointment thought ok this is normal.

Put it on the market then at a good price, and told agents we wanted a quick sale.
Lots of interest and some good offers around asking price but no one was actually ready to move ( houses not even in the market and house is in a depressed area with little movement and certainly no rises in house prices). So turned down those offers. Then someone offered us a very low price but they had no chain. We accepted on the premise of a quick sale.

After six weeks nothing had happened and it transpired that they were not ready so we pulled out. One week later they got themselves organised and we agreed to proceed again on the basis of a quick sale. That was four months ago!

We chased and chased, issued deadlines to no avail, but continued because were advised that it should not take much longer and we need to sell.

Two weeks ago we were told it would be by the end of this month. We are now there and again nothing. I could cry with frustration. I Told solicitors and agents that tomorrow is the deadline and we are pulling out. So this looks likely. In fact I feel like ringing and pulling out now!

We have no reason to believe purchasers are not genuine seems to be just a general slowness with their solicitors and many requests but the bank. If the price agreed was not so low it would not be so bad.
House is empty and costing us a fortune.
Am I right? Any thoughts?

do they want the place or not? If they do, they need to light a rocket under their solicitors. Tell them that.

Rather than simply pulling out which may cost you more time in the long run, I'd give an extremely tough ultimatum to the solicitors - and ring both sides to explain this. Ask for full disclosure of any circumstances that might be holding up the sale, and say that you are absolutely prepared to walk away if nothing happens soon.

Thanks for the replies. We have given an ultimatum of tomorrow! We have already extended previous deadlines, and neither my solicitor or the agents can see what the hold up is now. Looks unlikely since I have not heard anything. Spoke to agents today again and told them to make sure the other side are aware of this and that we want at least a date.

Looking bad, but can't go on like this any longer so as painful as it will be am prepared to walk away.

Just a thought, but is it possible the new mortgage rules are slowing things down? Maybe something has triggered the lender to look at their mortgage again and they're afraid to tell you? I just heard today from an estate agent of something along this lines.
