Double bathroom sink in vanity - preferably 1000mm wide ?

Oh collective wisdom, does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a double bathroom sink that can sit in a vanity unit that's only 1000mm wide ? Currently IKEA is looking like the only source but I have no experience of IKEA sinks and plumbing..

Any suggestions grateful received. Two sinks for brushing teeth is as near to an ensuite as I'm ever going to get.

Thanks !

Duravit?

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 29/04/2014 23:04

I can answer questions on IKEA sinks if you have any particular concerns? Can't be 100% on the fine details as I'm not at work, but know the bulk of it off the cuff Smile

roper rhodes is where we got ours from, via a hugely overpriced stockist - I have blanked the name out due to credit card bill trauma.

MillyMollyMama · 29/04/2014 23:12

Second Duravit. German, well made and fabulous design.

kmdesign · 30/04/2014 07:46

Villeroy Boch. Also German and on par with the best in the business.

Please note that its not as straight forward as a 1000mm vanity unit and a basin. Most basin manufacturers tweak the bases of their basins so that customers are almost forced to buy their own vanity units. Its sneaky but thats how it is. Unless you can check and be sure the basin will work with your vanity unit it could be an expesive mistake.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 30/04/2014 08:41

Yup. I'll second that. We only sell sinks because we sell the cabinets, so we're only concerned that they fit those. If they work on other peoples cabinets that's great, but our business priority is to sell a complete product (sink/tap/unit/ are you sure you don't want a high/wall cabinet with that?) Smile

Thanks for all your replies !

I should have been clearer - I intend to buy a sink in a unit from one manufacturer/range to guarantee no sizing problems as I agree that looks like a nightmare in the making.

I like Duravit but their smallest unit looks to be 1180mm from their catalogue.

IKEA offers this which is 1000mm - I can't tell if the sink is ceramic or plastic. I prefer the look of this sink which would be ok [http://m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/spr/29903452/]] but I guess I'd rather get a sink and unit from somewhere I can get a bath and toilet in the same range....

))))double sink((((
you just end up bashing elbows
we have a girls and a boys bathroom : much more civilised
and no en suites as toilets that open right onto debrooms (unless HUGE) are rank

MillyMollyMama · 30/04/2014 22:14

The Duravit Vero sink is wonderful and comes in 1000mm size. It has a variety of units that fit underneath in all sorts of finishes. Loads of wall cupboards if you need extra storage too. You can have two taps or one. We have two. One for hot water and one for cold (cleaning teeth). DH and I don't use the bathroom at the same time, but the space needed a big sink - and fabulous it looks too. My ensuite bathroom is shielded from the bedroom by a passageway and, yes, it and the bedroom are huge!!!! We have a bathroom each, and one to spare, so definitely no arguments in this house and it is very, very civilised. I thought I might do B and B one day!

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 30/04/2014 22:15

We don't sell plastic sinks - the sink in the first link (Edeboviken) is moulded crushed marble as is the Odensvik in the second (sinks and units are sold separately, no matter how the stupidly confusing website presents them, so you can have the Odensvik sink with the Godmorgan Unit if you want)

didireallysaythat · 30/04/2014 22:31

talkinpeace alas I live in the SE so I'm grateful for a bathroom as large as it is (2.4 m x 2.8 m) - there's no chance of another bathroom here (unless we convert the outside loo). We're already doing turns at the sink to brush teeth so it's only going to get worse.

Milly I think the veto range doesn't offer two sinks but one sink with two taps. I think I'd prefer the former because I've got two boys and a husband that shaves.

Mrs thanks ! We were in IKEA at the new year and had a look. The assistant said there was only a 120cm sink but I thought perhaps she taken on board not wanting a plastic one. I think a plain glossy white unit would probably go OK with a Duravit bath and toilet so I suspect we'll end up doing this (plus the outlay isn't enormous).

Now I'm searching for a 1000mm double mirror cabinet with motion sensor lights, antifog and a charging point (preferably internal) for toothbrushes. Any suggestions ????

I live in Hampshire
but I planned the rebuild of my house around my bugbears !

MillyMollyMama · 30/04/2014 23:40

Mine from, guess where, has all of that. It's a perfect bit of kit!

MillyMollyMama · 30/04/2014 23:44

Ps -I may be wrong, but I think you can get two smaller sinks side by side to fit on the Duravit cabinets. This means the finish of the sinks will match the loo. Whites can vary in whiteness if you see what I mean.

didireallysaythat · 01/05/2014 14:12

talkin I know what you mean. Part of the bathroom dilema is getting a decent sized shower in. I've managed that (on paper at least) but it means there's a small outside window in the cubicle. But I have a plan around this. I totally take on board the elbow disputes that will arise but I'm getting covered in toothpaste spit at the mo so I'm hoping this may help.

Milly yes the variation in whites bothers me. I'll see if I can a durafit unit I like and then a couple of basins - trouble is so far the builders merchants and bathroom showrooms are not vaguely interested in helping me find and buy bits. They just say its 1200mm or nothing and I don't have the confidence (and cash) to just buy a unit and two sinks without someone else confirming it will work. But glad to heat that the IKEA setup works for you - we'll probably do the same...

There's a Roca veranda double sink (795mm) I like but the unit is too trendy for me....
