Painting internal doors in Matt paint or Eggshell?

OK, we have lived with our internal doors just primed (as they came from Howdens) for the past year and they are often commented on (ie people don't realise that they are not finished).

I have given it a lot of thought and realise that this is because 1) they are a cream colour and 2) they are Matt, not shiny.

I really need to get on with painting them so, presuming I would be mad to paint them in a Matt paint, would eggshell look the same?

Can anyone recommend a good eggshell for the job?

Thanks in advance.

i like eggshell, and i like the colour "old english white"
never ever buy a 1 coat paint as the finish is lousy unless you are expert.

Oh Sarcy, quick reply, thanks.

Is eggshell shiny?

Who makes "old English White"? (I should just google, shouldn't I?)

I have just painted several doors in eggshell, which was recommended by the Farrow & Ball/Little Greene paintshop locally.

If you paint them matt, you won't be able to wipe off any sticky fingerprints at all.

It's not shiny shiny but obviously is shinier than totally matt paint.

Eggshell - we have been painting anything which we'd previously have painted gloss (skirting boards, door frames, doors etc) in eggshell and it is lovely and miles better than gloss. Agree matt would be hard to keep clean (or would be in my house!)

i've always used eggshell but a year old so later it looks grubby . Have just repainted in satin and really like the look. Just a slight sheen but easier to deal with marks.

found this handy article

and you are correct it is crown

Thanks. So, from that article you linked to Sarcy, Satin is less shiny than eggshell?

Now i am at home i can go and look, and i wouldn't say so, well not the crown anyway, it is quite mat

We use F and B interior eggshell. Lovely colour choice and hard wearing .

In terms of 'shine' it's gloss then satin then eggshell (which is matt).

I know this is an old one, but if you want a matt paint rather than a gloss you can still do this, but it will pick up dirt quicker than a gloss or satin. However, as long as you get a paint that is washable / wipeable, it's not really a problem anyway - just clean it once a year or so!
