Deposit for flooring?

Not strictly DIY but posted here for traffic.

Having a Karndean floor supplied and fitted. Two quotes are similar. 2250 and 2450.

Both retailers on Company website....

One smaller company requires 850 pounds now to fit in 3 weeks. Their quite slightly cheaper.

Larger company require no deposit just payment when all fitted.

Have no experience of this....is it normal to pay a large deposit when paying for this kind of flooring/work.

Any thoughts would be helpful....

Thanks

I paid for the materials upfront, then paid for fitter on the day. Was a local company.

You can pay on credit card of you have any concerns.

we did. not karndean and not so expensive but about 15%. dh not happy I was fine with it. he was ordering it to our size so it would have been pain to sell it on. local chap quite hunky

Thanks very much seems the norm then to pay a deposit....

I guess it's a huge outlay for them if we messed around.

Thanks.

I think it depends on the size of the company and their cashflow. A larger company would probably have an account and be able to juggle better than a smaller one.

Smaller companies usually require a deposit because they may well get stuck with the goods if you pull out. This could be a real problem for them. You are getting the floor in a few weeks so you are hardly losing any interest on the money. The company may also have to pay a deposit to Karndean.

Hi thanks for the replies we have used to smaller local company happy to pay over the odds deposit as I think it's the initial outlay....not worried about the interest just at large deposit.

Thanks all
