Need one fitted on our bathroom. Any idea of cost of getting someone to fit it? Anyone had this done recently?

Thanks.

The survey on the house we're in the process of buying has recommended that we fit one into the bathroom. The surveyor has put a value of £250 on the job. Probably very approximate, but it gives you an idea...

Wow that seems expensive. Was thinking more £150. Thanks for the info though.

It might be about half a day's work. A core drill cuts a neat round hole in the wall but is very heavy and not safe to use off a ladder.

If you have room in the loft, you can fit a much better, more powerful, quieter ducted fan above the ceiling, venting through the eaves or gable wall. It will cost a bit more but be worth it and will not need frequent replacement like a cheap and useless builder's fan.

Don't fit an ordinary fan directly above a fixed bath or shower.

We had one installed for £180 when our central heating was being put in.

Ours was done the way PJ suggests.

we had the one PJ recommended fitted recently - it's very effective and neat and quiet even at high speed. The fan in the loft cost £55 and the electrician charged £270 for fitting, but for that he also did electrics for a shower, a shaver cabinet (which he also fitted) and new lights & switch (again fitted). The cost would have been reduced by £25 if we hadn't had a switch for the fan speed put on the landing outside the bathroom. Not having an isolator switch too would have reduced the cost further (but maybe you need to have an isolator switch for regs, I'm not sure).
