Suggest me a colour for our kitchen?

Our kitchen needs paint on the walls. We've got dark grey floor tiles, oak units and black worktops. It's a nw facing room with a big window, but it's so dark! What colour would you paint the walls to cheer it up a bit? TIA Flowers

Your kitchen sounds just like ours! We painted it willow green (dulux) and it goes perfectly with the oak.

I was wondering about a bit of green, maybe one wall of Dulux Overtly Olive and maybe the rest in Natural Hessian - what's Willow Green like on the walls?

What about borrowed light F&B? Will work well with the grey floor and oak? Maybe try a tester to check it doesn't look just white against the units.. (Is a pale blue in my kitchen - which is north east facing. .

I like Pointing by F and B and it will make the room lighter. I would also consider Cornforth White which is a very pale grey. Personally I am not a fan of green with black work tops. I think you need a colour to reflect light.

Do you get F&B paints that stand up well to kitchen use? We don't have tiled splashbacks, just upstands, so we'll need to be able to clean the walls reasonably often.

I have Dulux Overtly Olive on one wall and Natural Hessian on the others! Have just painted my kitchen and (I think Grin) it looks great. The olive colour is lovely but the neutral contrast really lightens it. We have a west facing kitchen so does need lightening up especially in winter months.

Oh and yes - worth investing in the special kitchen paint. We don't have tiles either - just upstands - and splatters and splashes just wipe off the walls. Well worth the extra money imo.

We has it colour matched to johnstones durable mart. Haven't had to wash it down yet tho.

Lots to think about, thank you!

I'd go for plain simple white, personally.

We have F&B Pavilion Blue in our kitchen and in our bathroom. It is a pale bluey/green and looks light and airy.

I'm kind of leaning towards the greens I think, the finished rooms in the house (halfway through doing up an 80s estate house) are neutrals with warm-coloured curtains. I tend to think of blues being colder colours TBH and I'm not sure it would go with the oak cupboard doors?

I agree - I'd love to use blues but we also have an 80s house in an estate and greens and neutrals just work better with the style and wood in the house.

Green would be good against your grey/oak/black scheme. If the room doesn't get much light, you are fighting a losing battle trying to introduce light, so a neutral scheme might feel drab. If you choose a punchy shade with lots of pigment, it will feel brighter. Pale lime from Little Greene or Riverbank from Earthborn paints could be good.

Testers done, we're going with overtly olive/ natural hessian, plus a blind with some green and red in it (when I can find one wide enough, that is...). Thanks for your help Flowers
