For painting wooden kitchen cupboards? Water based or oil based?

What is Little Greene paint like?

Can you apply eggshell with a roller and which undercoat?

So many questions :)

I did my cupboards in LG oil eggshell as I thought it would be more durable than water based; it's been OK so far, no chips. I followed the instructions here: here (that whole site is a mine of information). IIRC I used the LG undercoat and 2 coats of top coat, foam rollers and a decent brush from Wickes. It's lovely paint and quite a matt, smooth finish. Got a bit sticky towards the bottom of the tin, should have stirred it more!

Water based always

You can apply eggshel with a roller

Little green paint is lovely. We have just made a hand crafted kitchen for one of our clients and they chose little Greene dove grey. It's got a gorgeous subtle green tint to it and far nicer than the farrow and ball same old colours we get asked for the rest of the time.

It's going to take pride of place on the website

Oil based is more durable, water based is easier to apply, so depends who's doing the painting.

Little Greene eggshell is oil based I thought Beaver? or maybe they do both.

Sanderson also do oil based as do Paint and paper library.

Oil based far more durable.

It is a common misconception that oil based paint is more durable. The oil or water acts as a carrier for the other ingredients in the paint. The key ingredient for durability is good quality resin and a high proportion of it.

Interesting, what products do you recommend? whats

Little green is lovely and good quality.

Well that is what my decorator told me and IME oil based is better. Painted a door in egg shell water based and it was really soft. Chipped easily. Just my experience though.

I did my kitchen cupboards two years ago and used LG. I used oil based on the fronts and water based on the backs (to speed up drying time) I can't see that there is much difference tbh.

I used Zinsser BIN undercoat and they still look as good as they did when first done. I'm a LG convert now and have used loads, it's fab!

Just painted a pine table using Little Green Co paint. I used the aluminium wood primer which is wonderful to apply. Then used their flat oil based eggshell and I am really disappointed with the result. I thought it would by flat and it isn’t its shiny. Have anyone else had that problem. I love their colours and although it is expensive wanted to give them a try.
