A bath in the bedroom? What would you think of this?

It's a free-standing roll-top bath on a sort of raised separate side of the room, along with a shower cubicle. No wall between the bathroom and bedroom though.

Do you think this is completely weird?

Just curious, as this is what we have in our house and I've always liked it (feels like a hotel to me) and H has always thought it's bizarre. It's not like we plan to do anything about it but as the house is going on the market, I just wondered!

It would put me off I'm afraid.

I'd like it. We stayed in a Lakeland cottage with a set up like yours and really enjoyed it. It felt very social.

PeterParkerSays · 14/04/2014 16:43

I wouldn't like it mainly because you can't have a bath in the day without closing the curtains in the bedroom to ensure you'd have privacy.

Is there another family bathroom in addition to this or would the kids have to pile in to your room as well?

I would love it! But then I imagine it to be like this

The bath I could live with but not the shower cubile - just wouldn't want to be looking at it all the time in my bedroom.

superram · 14/04/2014 17:09

I have just put this in our very big bedroom (no ensuite just the bath). There is another bathroom, shower room and toilet.
It could be partitioned off but I don't want to. Will be for special occasion baths not getting out in the morning washing.
I love it but understand why other people don't.

Sandthorn · 14/04/2014 18:05

Definitely not for me: I don't want company while I have a bath, and water in the bedroom would stress me out.

Lovely in a hotel but not at home.

LizzieMint · 14/04/2014 19:47

It is a huge room, the ceiling is double-height, the bathroom is the size of a full bathroom. We don't have any problems with damp or condensation, I think because the ceiling is so high.
We didn't put it in, it was built like this. We also have a family bathroom and another separate shower so plenty of options!
We could probably do a half-wall of glass bricks, will have to see what the response is when we start marketing.

I'd love it, as long is the toilet is seperated off I'd be happy.

I love it in luxury hotels when there are just the two of us. It feels special and romantic. I wouldn't feel so comfortable in a family home when any of the teenagers could barge in at any moment!! It would ruin the intimacy I'm afraid.

ShadowFall · 14/04/2014 20:37

It would put me off.

I'd be worrying about damp, regardless of whether the vendor says that they've no problems with damp / condensation or not. Especially as DH tends to be excessively splashy when he has a bath.

jamaisjedors · 14/04/2014 20:41

Friends have this and it's lovely, they do have it in a kind of alcove with tiles on the floor.

They also bath the kids in there and have lots of room and can keep it quite sociable - you can even lounge in bed while the DC have their bath.

They have a sink in there too which I think must be really handy.

I don't think I would add a glass wall, if people wanted to do it, they could.

Re: the Marmite thing - this could sell your house for you because it will be something someone could fall in love with, rather than the usual blandness. No point trying to tone Marmite down!

HenI5 · 14/04/2014 20:44

Can I just say, glass bricks would also really put me off, I think they're really old hat now. I'd prefer a half height solid wall, maybe with shelving on the bath side, for towels, and other pretty stuff, or a padded bench seat maybe, depending on the size and shape of the area. You could do a curved wall if that would look good.

I might be happy to live with it then.

What PigletJohn said. If I viewed a house with this arrangement I would mentally add the cost of changing it to the budget and so probably consider a lower offer, TBH.

littleredsquirrel · 15/04/2014 09:50

I wouldn't do glass bricks, they are very dated.
