Ideas please- there's no water coming out of my hot taps and I'm selling this week.

It's a flat with a combi boiler. All taps are mixer style. The boiler is still heating the radiators. No water comes out of any hot taps. I tried connecting the cold supply to the hot supply (via the washing machine inlets, as found on the internet as a tip to get rid of an air lock. ) This resulted in cold water flowing through the hot taps but even when left on for a few minutes it didn't seem to fix it. The inlets are connected back properly now and still no water comes through any hot taps. I'm wondering if there could be an air lock near the boiler, it was switched off overnight (still connected to power and gas, just off at the mode selector switch.) I can't think of any other change.

Please help- can I try anything myself? Should I try to find a plumber or boiler engineer?

thanks

Just to add- the combi boiler is serviced regularly by an independent person who seems really thorough. I topped up the boiler today, probably for the first time in a year. The pressure was at 1 when cold and I raised it to about 1.2 before switching it on. I hadn't tried the hot taps before young it up or switching out on today. The hot water was fine yesterday before switching the boiler off .

It could be a diverter valve problem. Somewhere in the system (boiler) there will be a valve which sends flow from the radiators or water side to the boiler heat exchanger. Sometimes these stick. Sometimes they fail.

If in doubt, my first attempt if you haven't already tried, is to power everything off, wait 1 minute then turn it all back on.

Sometimes diverter valves have a manual override but its probably within the boiler itself and paying in the boiler is probably a step to far.

you say no water comes out. Can't think what that is. It won't be the diverter valve. It won't be an airlock.

If you have recently topped it up, look carefully at all the valves under the boiler in case you have turned off the wrong one. You may need the manual to see which is which. With luck it will be blue or red.

If the manual is lost you can download it from the maker's website.

Yes my first thought was the diverter valve. Our old boiler always did this. See if you can find it, do you have instructions? Or you might be able to find them online. You might be able to manually adjust it enough to get you through till you've moved. Wink

Oh sorry I missed the bit about no hot water at all. Blush

Oops, yes one of the valves had been nudged! It's all fine now. Thank you for your help.
