If so, who do you use for your insurance?

We're in a Grade 2 listed cottage and I have been Shock at the quotes I've been getting. I knew it'd be high but 3k has been the worst. The reinstatement cost's high I guess.

Nationwide. Expensive but we get the contents separately to keep it diwn

Good god that's ridiculous! We just moved and switched to Natwest - cheaper than the insurance on our 3 bed terrace in zone 2 London (which was far from listed) Definitely shop around, it doesn't need to be so high - good luck!

We go through a broker called Lark, which specialises in Listed Buildings insurance. You get free membership of the Listed Buildings Owners Club, which is, er, handy for seeing just how much stress other people go through with their lime render/leaky roofs/bat issues.

We use National Farmers Union - NFU Mutual. The quote was the same as we paid on our previous non-listed house (with a different provider)

Just checked ours. We're insured with AXA and pay £680 per annum (reinstatement cost £1million).

MissBetseyTrotwood · 11/04/2014 15:12

Ah, thanks all. Just went to NFU and they quoted 812. Much better! Just goes to show how shopping around makes a difference.

Our contents are of, erm, low value motley and I'm not too bothered by contents tbh.

I liked that the NFU was an actual office with someone in it about 10mins drive from my house too iykwim.

Great tip on the Owners Club! We have bats, and probably a leaky roof too...

Thanks so much again. Glad I persevered and didn't go with the first quote.

Checked ours. About £45 a month.
Most of our street is listed and lots more around town so don't tend to have too many issues with planning as the planning lady is semsible

HappyAsASandboy · 11/04/2014 15:58

Used to be NFU but switched to Lark for a cheaper quote ( though someone on here switched the other way!).

The Listed Property Owners Club is worth joining. They've answered questions about cellars, wells, lime mortar, lime plaster and stone for us so far!

MrsJohnDeere · 11/04/2014 16:11

A friend of mine is with NFU and really rates them. They've always paid out very quickly and without any quibbling when she's needed them to.

Rockdoctor · 12/04/2014 06:56

Another vote for Lark here. They have always found a good price and were really good when we had to make a claim.

Gooner123 · 12/04/2014 07:56

Yep another vote for NFU here.
