What colour would you paint a narrow hallway with no natural light?

We are about to decorate our hallway. We live in a bungalow and all the rooms lead off this hallway so it has 6 doors which will be white 4 panel doors with satin nickel door knobs. The floor will be a medium dark parque which we are going to uncover and sand.

At first I thought we should paint it all white but I am wondering if it will look a bit dull.

Any ideas?

We have similar OP.
Whatever you do with paint, colour or paper won't make much difference.
You need lots of lights, candles, glass accessories and silver here and there for accessories.
A neutral very pale grey would be good unless of course you have stripped wood.

We have no window in our hall. It's dark.
We painted the walls white, bought a new front door with a larger glazed panel, a large mirror, glass chandelier and large canvas of a sort of meadow-y scene- figured it might sort of replicate a window.
We also stripped out the staircase and got new white spindles. It looks better now.

It is just a very narrow corridor with one alcove that has a small table big enough for a phone and lamp. So all accessories will be pictures and mirrors. I like pale grey but the lounge that is at the end of the hall is grey so don't want to overdo it.

So white does work? This is just temporary as in 5 years we will be extending and making the hall bigger in the process. So don't want to spend money on a new front door right now. Just want a colour which brightens the room up a bit.

We're going for a hard wearing white with a bolder colour carpet in our HS&L. If it gets scuffed we'll paint over it and hopefully it'll lighten up the whole area.

how about pale sunny yellow?

hugebagsisanunderstatement · 09/04/2014 22:30

Try dulux 'polished pebble', it's a very pale grey but once it's on the wall, it kinda looks white/v light blue. It's nice n bright

white, yay. Was going to say do a nice eggshell so you dont get those scuffs you find on matt emulsion wall. The white would be cooler and brighter than an ivory/magnolia but with artificial light, depending on bulb shade (white light/warm light/daylight) will warm up to tone but i dont think it would make it to yellow-y.

I would look at the Modern Emulsion range by F and B. This is for highly trafficked areas. I would consider colours such as Pointing, Wimborne White, Skimming Stone and White Tie. These would work in harmony with the grey. We have painted all our windows and architraves in Wimborne White throughout the whole house to give it continuity. I think you can then use different colours for different rooms.

I have used Dulux Daffodil White in my hall

Bucking the trend here, but we have dulux wild mushroom with white woodwork and it's fine.
