What is the best drill for DIY please?

Dh has an ancient black and decker corded drill that my Dad bought him 15+years ago when we bought our first house. It came with a selection of drill bits all stored in it's carry box.

It is now not working as well as it used to and dh has asked for a new one for his birthday. Unfortunately my Dad is no longer around to ask for his advice and I have no idea who else would know what to get or not get!

So please can anyone recommend a drill that has the following:
A cord (definitely no battery drills)
A carry box with storage for drill bits
Ideally a selection of drill bits
Suitable for general home DIY (I believe he has a heavy duty hammer drill for going through our granite walls).

Thank you Smile

how much do you want to pay?

I'd suggest buying a box of drills (bits) separately.

Go and look to see if he really has got a big hammer drill. See how big and heavy it is, and the make and model number if you can. Can you easily lift it with one hand, and hold it steady, with one hand, at shoulder level?

From what you say about hoping to get drill bits with the drill, have you actually been using the same ones for 15 years? If so, try replacing them first... You might find that the drill itself is fine!

Bosch. Hilti. Avoid B and D is my view.

I like cordless, you just charge them up but that's just my view.

Love a good power tool me! Though not the best at using them have to say!

Thank you all, I've ended up ordering a Bosch PSB 750 RCE Impact drill after scouring reviews on tinterweb.

He definitely did not want cordless.

I also got him the Bosch 50 drill bit set. Again it seemed to meet what dh wanted. But this is all slightly alien to me. Households power tools are dh's domain, garden power tools are my thing (got to love a chainsaw Grin)

Sandthorn he has replaced drill bits over the years as I have been sent to get them but I think he likes having a general set ready for all eventualities (for when the curtain rail falls down at 9pm etc).

PigletJohn we live in a Cornish granite house and I am almost certain he ended up getting a beast of a drill for doing holes in the exterior walls but it is too heavy for doing those silly little annoying jobs that I create for him (coat hooks etc). He is building a train track base so is doing a lot of drilling batons/chipboard so the big drill is OTT I believe.
