Anyone have an idea about bathroom designs?

This is my soon to be ensuite when it's built.
I'd like a decent size shower, a bath if it'll fit, wall hung loo & big baisin.
I'd like something with the wow factor.
It's a new extension on a very old house.

Pinterest is great but the rooms on there are mostly very big.

Has anyone got any inspiring ideas?

Could you go to a bathroom designer? We found the most amazing bathroom designer to do our bathrooms, and she transformed it from yuk (really, yuk) to something more like a 5 star hotel.

If you can't, then our room is also square but slightly smaller, with a bath taking up the whole of the left side as you come in through the door, then the sink on the right as you come in, and the loo next to the sink.

Thanks Grendels the plans are with one now but it seems to be rather down to me.
5 * hotel would be perfect.

Try Houzz perhaps - think they have designers willing to help + the MN-er OnePlanHouzz on here provides good advice.

The bathrooms on Pinterest are mainly massive. I search for "small bathroom..." And then the bathrooms are a bit more "European" sized :)

Great ideas, I'll contact Oneplan. Thanks

Actually that's a pretty good sized bathroom.

I would have a shower then a bath along the right wall, the sink along the far wall (if the window height allows for it), and the wc behind the door.

But I have been living in France for a while so have become averse to WCs next to sinks. You could also have them both along the LH wall.

Any decent bathroom store will do a plan for you. We have all you want but are 4m x 3m. Good showers take up a lot of space. I would go for a big walk in shower and drop the bath, assuming you have one elsewhere.

We have a free standing bath which takes up a lot of room. Our layout, without my large storage cupboards is 1m sink with two taps on the right wall, storage under and two tall cupboards either side. Bath adjacent to wall with longer side under the window. Shower is built into far left corner and loo is on left wall nearer door. We have large open ended walk in shower and you need about 1.5m for these to work and not spray water everywhere. Tank the area around the shower. We like Duravit and recommend them highly. Anyone who supplies Duravit will help you with design.

apartmenttherapy have good small space ideas usually.

Your design will be driven to a great extent by existing plumbing unless you have the budget to carry out extensive work (within reason) to plumbing.

Remember labour costs are a big part of bathroom installation so dont scrimp on the quality of fitting. It costs as much to fit a cheap shower valve as a quality one and the quality product will last 15-20 years.

Wall hung pans create a sense of space. Frameless or minimal frame showers looks good too. Wall hung storage and vanity units create a sense of space too. Think about practicality. Sit on washbasins looks great but can be hard work wiping down surfaces after each use can be hard work.

Wet rooms look great but you need an expert to install them. Alternatively look at one of the low profile showers which are more forgiving.

In terms of quality Duravit, Laufen, Villeroy Boch make excellent stuff and are similarly priced (and have some very keenly priced ranges) and very good quality. Brassware from Grohe and Hansgrohe are very good though I personally think the latter has a slight edge. Dont scrimp of quality of accessories as the cheap stuff will fall apart leaving you with holes in the wall that your replacement accessories wont necessarily fit to.

Thanks KM
We're building quite a big extension, the new bathroom will be an old bedroom, but the existing house needs all new plumbing so the builder is flexible about where the pipes go.

I've had a couple of drawings from a designer but I'm not very impressed.
I love the ideas of wall hung loo, vanity and frameless shower. The designs I've got all looks bit squashed. We've asked for some new ones.
Thank you.

If you are looking to do a new room from scratch then you have a lot of choice with what you can do. Make sure you find a good designer. There are lots of useless designers around that regurgitate the same design irrespective of the size and shape of the room.
