this is the first one - rural area. 10m from nearest big town (Hexham) down rural unlit road. 6m from shops / doctor / school etc:

This is the 2nd one:
6m from Alnwick

what do you think?

WetAugust-
I should post some pics of my house and let you guess the price. You would fall off your seat, honestly!

I don't know the area so going on photos only choose the second one.

sorry, that sounded like some weird sort of house boast which it is NOT meant to be.
what I meant was, you would never guess how little my house is worth if you saw pics of it / knew size.
that's better"!

The second one is one of the most parts of the east coast. It's stunning there. Dunstanburgh, Craster, Alnemouth (Seahouses not so much...). Really lovely. Rural, but you're not that far off the A1 and Newcastle is great.

Def number two- and am very jealous as I know that area!

Has to be no 2 as it has a utility room. And it's a good size. The bath would have to go though.

I prefer the look of No 1, but No 2 has, on balance, a better location, I think. I was brought up in the countryside down unlit roads (not a village), so I have no issue with that; DB and SIL bought an ex-Forestry house in a tiny village (not as pretty as the one you are looking at) so I know that type of community.
However, remember the old mantra: location, location, location. Given the resources (time, money & imagination) you can change just about anything about a house, except move it. A mid-terrace will always be a mid-terrace ... Does that help?

If you like the location of one but prefer the decor / layout / whatever of the other, ask yourself what features you like: size/style of kitchen, no of bathrooms, size/ease of maintenance of garden, no of rooms - and consider what improvements are possible in the one with the better location.

It would be neither for me - lots more will come on the market soon. Location and easy daily practicalities are high up there for me so neither locations would fit the bill given what you have said.

2 you can pretty up a frontage with a portico, or porch, cladding that sort if thing.

2 has more space and less adjoining neighbours no brainer for me.

2nd house is better imo what's the access to the back garden of the first? Looks like it could be a problem. I'd have a semi over a terrace any day.
Dying to hear more about your place, come on! :)

Ah. Thanks for all useful messages.x

Have now viewed no 2, the 'seaside one'.
Was not as nice in the flesh. Smaller than it looks. Ladder to loft room is in main bedroom. Ladder is vertical and opening into loft room almost impossible to get into. Will contravene all building regs. Bathroom grubby and seems boiler doesnt provide enough hot water to fill bath?)Space nicked for bathroom from 2nd bed. Kitchen old and tired. The owner was lovely, and he has done wonders with the house from what it originally was, but it wasn't what I had expected. Kids 'play footie all night' just outside front area - wouldn't work for me.

The 'forest one' is just one of about 3 on there atm. There is another semi too for the same price, all clean and ready to go.

I might post some pics of mine under a name change as I'm going to put it up for sale and could do with feedback - and I'll get you to guess the (low) value too ;)
