What do we all think about persian rugs?

I must be getting really old because I think one would look good in my sitting room. I'd like one with muted blue/duck egg colours. Do they smell? Are they high maintenance?

We are 20-something hipsters - and we bought one a few years ago - they look good in period houses.

We did get light brown one in the end but I was hoping for the first carpet that BrownSauceSandwich linked (light-blue). Couldn't find one that didn't cost 5 figures a few years ago.

Beware of the site suggested by MyAngels. I have had a bad experience with them and there are many negative reviews online for Irugs.uk. The rug was lovely but the colour was not what I wanted, They ship internationally from the USA and any returns have to be sent to Switzerland (their "nearest warehouse") at buyers own expense.
