If you had 250k to spare to buy a first property in UK for investment, and you had the choice of a 2 bedroom flat in really nice and safe surroundings eg in. Bath and another property somewhere in Zone 3 or 4 in London , but a 1 room flat. in a not so nice or safe area, which would be the better bet? Both from the investment point of view and a place to stay as a vacation home.

If you are thinking Bath; why not think Bristol or Cardiff? Might be better to invest in a few good quality lock up garages in fairly central London for that price imo. Or I have heard the returns on static caravans in popular locations are pretty good.

Lots of people live in oxford and work in London commuting daily either on the train or the bus services that go about every 5-10 minutes 24 hours a day

NearTheWindymill- I am curious: how does the lock up garage work as an investment?

Because parking is so scarce and money is so prevalent that very rich people need somewhere to put expensive cars. If you can afford a Ferrari you can afford a grand a month to garage it - although having just checked the websites there is a garage in W1 up for £300,000. A parking space in Mayfair for £92,000. Rent on a parking space a bit further out for £350 pcm. Depends what return you want.
