High Wycombe - bad areas?

Hi,

For anyone who knows High Wycombe please talk to me about Eaton Avenue / Dashwood Ave / Abercrombie Ave

We've seen a house we adore around there but have been told the area is so bad it's not safe to walk around, especially at night. Is this really true? I'd be waking home alone at 6pm every night...

Is Guinions Road nice and safe? We are considering move there

allwornout0 · 14/06/2016 12:30

Can't answer as to if Guinions Rd is nice and safe but looking at the High Wycombe facebook page it seems it is used as a very busy rat run between Micklefield Rd and Hatters Lane. I can see why as London Rd and the traffic lights there are a total nightmare.

Desborough is very pretty, situated on a hilly part of town and gets gorgeous views across high wycombe. Also has good parks nearby. Some of the properties have been a little run down but there's lots of new people moving in and so lots of renovation works going on at the moment.

New road is in Sands which is a lovely village on the outskirts of high Wycombe (near Desborough). New road itself can be a busy road (most of the traffic going to west wycombe comes through here) but again it's really close to parks, sands nature reserve and west wycombe (innpsrt ownes by the national trust). So if you want a mix of town and countryside somewhere like sands is ideal.

Are you from Visit High Wycombe or Come and live in High Wycombe @AliceandMatt? Very odd to add to three very old threads about the place!

AliceandMatt · 11/10/2018 10:30

Haha! No I just found that when I moved to the area I searched loads of these sorts of threads for advice and it caused us lots of anxiety about making the wrong choice, but actually now that we're here we really shouldn't have been so worried- lots of these older threads are really outdated, so I just wanted to offer a more up to date opinion. Might help people who are now in that same position :)

Hi AliceandMatt!
It’s nice to read a more positive post..myself and my fiancé are in the process of buying a house on Tenzing Drive in the Totteridge area..do you know much about this area/would you recommend?

BubblesBuddy · 08/11/2018 12:13

Sands is a lovely village??? Since when? It’s been part of HW for generations! Of course parts of HW are lovely. Other areas less so as you get into the centre. Like many towns really.

eacc1 · 06/12/2018 18:18

Hi all, would appreciate any similar feedback on Deeds grove, Desborough avenue. Thanks,

JumpingBeanJumpingBean · 06/12/2018 18:29

I certainly wouldn’t consider Sands as a village, it’s just part of Wycombe. We have friends who live there and are happy enough with it though. Wouldn’t fancy Desborough area myself, although it is supposed to be improving.

Kneesbend · 06/12/2018 21:29

What Bubbles said! Lived there for 17 years and never on one occasion was Sands a village Confused Its the outskitts of a town that doesn’t know if it’s very old or new!?

Deeds Grove & Desborough are ‘ok’. Personally I’d rather live in the true part of Downley because it’s quieter - and dare I say it - safer.

Some parts of HW are cheaper for a reason. Like all places.

BookwormMe · 06/12/2018 21:43

I'd avoid Desborough, it's one of the least nicest areas in town and there's also lots of student accommodation round there, so it's becoming quite built up.

How are you getting on SophieTee? I know Tenzing Drive really well, I grew up around there!

SophieTee · 06/12/2018 22:10

Hi BookwormMe! My partner and I move to Tenzing Drive the week after next!
Did you enjoy growing up around there? Smile

BookwormMe · 07/12/2018 11:17

Hello! I loved growing up there and I still have strong links to the area via my parents (I moved away in my twenties). HW gets a bad rap but it's a lovely little town with good amenities surrounded by gorgeous countryside. When the weather gets warmer make sure you do the walk to the top of West Wycombe hill - the views are spectacular. Good luck with the move!

SophieTee · 09/12/2018 15:56

Thanks so much for your message! Can’t wait to get settled in & i’ll be sure to do that walk when the weather gets warmer Smile
Take care x

Hi there, we are looking for a house in HW and found one in Booker Hill and another in right next to West Wycombe. I have read mixed vews which makes me doubt HW. Are the places mentioned above good areas to live with children ages 1 and 3?

justkeepmoving · 05/02/2019 19:54

We love living in HW - been here 20 years and it has changed a bit but still has that small town feel - i feel it has a lot going for it - town centre is ok if not fab - but its well placed to pop into London for shopping - good transport links - so many parks and nice countryside nearby - mostly good schools - best parts to live are on the edges - cheaper areas near the town are a bit rougher
