Sliding patio doors with integrated blinds

we're doing up our kitchen and putting in new patio doors. I've discounted bi-fold for various reasons and think sliding doors would be best. We're south facing so we need some screens. What do you think about integrated venetian blinds ?

We have them.
I wish I'd gone for electric rather than manual operation though. The manual ones take an age to put up and down so they either stay up, or when v sunny and hot stay down and we twiddle the slats to let light in

Oh, I'm a complete novice at this and didn't know there were electric ones. I'll need to go and look at some as I had no idea there might be operation problems. What make are your pootlebug? We will need to use our for privacy at night time so probably need something quick operating.

I saw these in a diagnosis show - just after we had had our sliding patio doors installed. Doh! I would love to have them. TBH, with south-facing, which we also have, I would probably leave them down most of the time, too, and twiddle to adjust the angle. Thats what we do in our wtudy, ehich is also south-facing. But our patio doors are at the corner of the room, and not a big feature. If they were more central, and the room effectively focused on them, then I might not want to have the blinds down all the time.

'diagnosis show'? Confused

'design show'

Does anyone else have integrated blinds in their patio doors (please). Really looking for advice.

I have sliding doors and put in large roller blinds

PartyConfused · 02/02/2014 11:29

Look up 'perfect fit' blinds. We have them on feench doors so I'm not sure if they would be slim enough to allow the patio doors to slide iyswim.
But blinds are brilliant. Wood venetian. About £100 per blind if I remember correct. I'm afraid I can't remember the manufacturer (off web) but when one string snapped a year later, they sent out a replacement without any fuss. Had them a few years now and v happy with them.

We got ours through Sunparadise when we ordered our doors www.sunparadise.co.uk/Products/blinds-.aspx

I think the problem with ours is that the doors are tall, and the pull cord is less than half the height, just on the top part of the door iyswim, so as to keep it well away from children. But it just means it feels like it is geared wrong - so lots of pulling on the cord only moves the blinds a small amount. Doesn't help that we have 9 doors, so lots of blinds.

sorry, maybe I didn't explain myself. We want integrated venetian blinds. Does anyone have that (and like them?)

I think ours are great apart from the time taken to operate. you can barely see them when up, no obstruction to the clean lines of the doors etc. if they were electric they'd be perfect Smile

Treaclet · 02/02/2014 23:32

Aw pootle,l I am SO Confused and I obviously know nothing about these bloomin blinds.

I can't understand that you have pull cords outside the patio doors "the pull cord is less than half the height, just on the top part of the door, so as to keep it well away from chldren"

So...are yours NOT integrated

If you click on the brochure here www.flipsnack.com/BB696758B7A/fh9qr8fm it should clarify. Ours is the system you can see on the earlier pages, with a cord attached to the glass of the door. So the blind is between the glass panes, but the control system is on the outside.

You can also get electric/solar systems that avoid the need for any cord at all and don't require so much time to close and open....see later pages of the brochure above

flatmum · 03/02/2014 10:45

we also have perfect fit blinds on French doors which are excellent and work well (we have cellular, not venetians) - these are not integrated as such but fit to the glass afterwards and may work on sliding doors? Might be worth a look.

Treaclet · 03/02/2014 11:30

I REALLY want to see the brochure poootlebug but that link doesn't work

Trying again www.flipsnack.com/BB696758B7A/fh9qr8fm

Oh thanks pootlebug - success at last and now I understand the mechanics of it all. Looks like what we need and thanks for the info on the manual vs electric operation.

Thanks all for your advice.
