Kitchen worktops - Top end laminate? Bulthaup....

I visited a Bulthaup kitchen showroom today. Heaven. Unfortunately far too expensive. To my surprise the incredibly gorgeous thin worktop was actually a laminate. Laminate must have come on a bit in the last few years. Where can I get cool, high end laminate from? I am thinking pure white to go with (cheaper than Bulthaup) german handleless kitchen. Anyone done it?

I've not got it personally ( live in a very old cottage - so had to stay with that style) but if you go to your local Nolte, Hacker, Miele etc etc type German kitchen showroom they will be able to help you I'm sure ! In fact, english suppliers could too !!!

OnePlanOnHouzz · 31/01/2014 22:36

Annaloiuseh might be able to help - her husband has a kitchen company I understand !!!

I found a company called Plasman who are based in Reading, they seem to have a large range of laminates.

A number of high end German kitchen manufacturers now offer thin laminates. Our supplier offers 17mm laminate with the conventional chipboard core but also 10mm solid laminate. Its not cheap but very durable and looks fabulous.

I have Duropal worktops in my new kitchen - they're 40mm thick but very lovely with a chunky feel - they do a crystal white as well. I think Bushboard do a thin one but it seems to be aimed at bathrooms....

Agree with the recommendation of talking to Paul at Evo Kitchens - he had the patience of a saint with me when I had my frequent worktop crisesSmile

Thanks all! Am def coming round to the white laminate idea. More to spend on the units.....

Daisybell - really pleased you like your Duropal worktops. We're going for Duropal with our kitchen being installed later this month… just got to pick the colour now and really can't decide arghh!

I was also really impressed with the look of the laminate OP and think that even if we had the money for granite I'd still go for the laminate option. White worktops with your kitchen style sounds very chic!

What about staining on the white?

Daisybell1 · 01/02/2014 16:54

I've got Taurus sand with chunky oak units. It looked very very bland in the sample but when I saw it in the flesh it looks very solid and honed. It's pretty light and we haven't had a problem with any stains yet.

snailsontour · 01/02/2014 22:01

I'm not sure if these are a laminate, but they do look very good.

There will be a laminate supplier in your town, possibly on an industrial estate, who has a bigger range than any kitchen shop.

I fell in love with Bulthaup kitchens too - but not their price tag. We ended up getting ours made by Higham, with all the cupboard fronts and worktops made from thin corian. It wasn't cheap but was very very much cheaper than Bulthaup, and very high quality imo. Looks similar to this cdukltd.co.uk/photos/view/10

Thank you MaryS. Pootlebug that is LOVELY. Do you mind me asking how much?

I've got 10mm laminate in my kitchen. It's white all the way through. It was not easy to source but is extremely practical and I think it looks good. However, I wouldn't say it was for everyone. I had to measure up myself and email the company who then cut it to size which was very nerve wracking. Also, the fitter had no idea what to do with it. In the end he just glued it on and it seems to be ok. I'm desperately trying to think of the name of the company we used. They were extremely helpful and don't usually do domestic work.

pootlebug · 04/02/2014 20:23

ixos I will message you re cost details.

Assq06 · 01/08/2014 11:19

Hi ShooCat,

Did you ever track down the supplier of your 10mm worktop.

We are trying to do the same.
