Seen a lovely ikea one but it's already 10 years old :(
I could replace the worktops but wondered if anyone had any advice/tips/experiences buying this type of thing from e bay?

Yes - but I probably wouldn't buy a ten year old ikea one. I've bought second hand ikea bits before and they do last, but they also tend to knock and discolour slightly, so you can't add to it. I bought some scond hand adel and it fitted in fine with new stuff, but was only a year old. I bought some second hand white applad and it won't work with the new stuff as it had yellowed, so I'm just going to reuse the cupboards and ditch the doors. I think it depends which kitchen as well. And if they've cut the cupboards about at the back to fit in utilities. It's definitely worth looking out for the expensive cupboards second hand, you can make great savings on pull out units and drawers, but don't expect too much of the doors.

I'd look on Freecycle and Gumtree - we've been collecting kitchens for free and have almost all we need, including a bunch of 3-year old IKEA units. I wouldn't pay for 10-year-old IKEA.

Yes, it's the age that's bothering me tbh.

My friend has and saved a fortune. But it was a high quality top end kitchen that was only 5 yrs old (owner had got bored of it) so was well worth the trip to collect it.

We bought a 10 year old kitchen second hand. We went for a high end kitchen that has good cabinets and drawers. The fronts are in OK condition now but you can see that they are not new. We bought new appliances and worktop. Our plan is to change the fronts in the future, the cabinets will last for ever.
I would not buy a 10 year old IKEA kitchen, especially now that they are changing the kitchen models and you won't be able to get spares for the old models for very long. You will always need a few bits and pieces to fit the kitchen perfectly into your house, so if you buy second hand make sure you get more than you think you need.

there is no need to buy a ten-year-old one. People change their kitchens all the time, and if you don't buy them, they will mostly end up down the tip.

You will need a van and a screwdriver, as you will get the best deal if you dismantle and remove yourself the day before the seller is starting their new kitchen. There is no point in bidding for anything that is not the finest quality. I got some units with solid walnut doors to match my existing kitchen, off ebay. Some were new and still in their packing, others were excellent. A used kitchen usually has some damaged or dirty units.

Avoid dealers and always inspect the kitchen before you make an offer. Around the sink and washer there may be water damage and holes cut for pipes.

Tbh all the units we want/need would only be £1k so it's nit like they are mega £££
God, I am so sick of this damn house!
