Do we need to pay a tradesman who hasn't fixed the problem...?

Had a leaking roof over Xmas, guy came out to Fix it. Gave us a quote, said he knew exactly what the problem was, £360 but would 100% fix the problem.
He came out, it didnt fix it.
Came out again, didnt fix it and the felt he laid bubbled up so he came out again to re lay it.
He asked for some money so we paid him £150 until we were sure the problem was fixed. It wasn't.
He came out again, said it was fixed. It wasn't. His felt work bubbled up again. He came out again to fix it and as it still didnt fix the problem, again to try something different.

Now the leak is worse than ever - its spread to another place altogether (and is still in the original place too). He wants paying.

He has been very quick in coming out and really very good about it, but the work hasn't fixed the problem. I can see why from his perspective he wants paying, but should we as if we do pay him we will have paid £360 for work that has not only not fixed the problem, but has possibly made it worse.....
What would you do???

I opened the thread to say 'yes', as in, a call out fee if he's come to try and fix somthing but it's unrepairable sort of a way, but having read your OP, then no, I don't think you should pay him. Not only has he already had £150 for not fixing the problem, but it's also gone on and on, presumably meaning more inconvenience for you in terms of being there to meet him, etc., but also with more and more wet getting into your house, quite possibly causing more damage.
So, I'd say no.

Unlike Backforgood I opened this to say NO!

As said if there person you called charges a call out fee then you would have to pay that, of course.
I think you have paid them something and they haven't repaired it so you should just agree to end this matter here.
Now you need a new quote to actually fix the problem.
It may be that this person can fix the problem but it is bigger and more expensive than they first realised but I think I'd get in another company to give a quote.
Try to find long established roofing company.

If you are in the south east you might find a Which? approved trusted trader from their website.
