Hi buda! Yes we should meet up!

The house is behind vivary park. Overlooks Wilton fields and sherford stream! It's an amazing spot.

I'm going to see if it survives tomorrow's flooding ...

Happy to do coffee sometime. Busy Tuesday this week but pretty free rest of the week.

NaffOrf · 26/01/2014 11:57

I quite like those type of fugly 1970s houses.

We went for appearance over location.

Our breathtakingly beautiful house flooded the year after we moved in and is now an uninsurable while elephant. Should have gone for a boring house on a hill.

PrimalLass · 26/01/2014 11:58

That took about 30 s to find Grin It looks nice, and really great at the back.

thecatfromjapan · 26/01/2014 12:07

Lovely to see you, morningpaper.

I like the house. I really like those 70s houses. Am a bit that BoF doesn't like it. But am that Tethersend does.

So, I can't really tell you what I;d do, because for me that would be a non-conundrum: lovely 70s house in a great location.

thecatfromjapan · 26/01/2014 12:10

Oh, and noddyholder like it too. And I think she is spot on in decoration ideas.

I'd add that I once visited a house in that style owned by an architect. They had a very 70s, scandinavian classics feel in the interior and exterior decoration but also had added in some very warm, individual and unexpected touches, such as dark wood, ethnic carving-style radiator covers that were low and wide enough to work as window seats or low tables. It all worked beautifully.

TheLeftovermonster · 26/01/2014 12:36

I think I might have found it too. It does look lovely (not keen on the decor), and the front is not that fugly at all, looks like all the front gardens are well maintained with lots of greenery. If the house works for you otherwise, I don't think you should be put off by the front.
What does the rest of your family think?

sassytheFIRST · 26/01/2014 12:47

Morningpaper! Helloooo!

We live in a 70s tile hung box which I rejected a number of times while house hunting as the outside was so meh. But we love it - rooms are light and well proportioned, reasonably solidly built etc. and we have what a friend calls "the million dollar view" out of the back, 15 mins walk into town etc. soo glad I went inside for a viewing Grin

noddyholder · 26/01/2014 12:53

I would definitely not cedar clad if it's in a terrace Have seen this and it looks terrible in a row of unclad houses. Stick with what it is but keep the inside very plain. Goodnquality floors and well finished plastering and paint work. Absolutely no attempt to give it any features and try not to go too retro as it can look 'jokey'. There is lovely light in these houses so plain furniture and big art works well. I renovated one about 7 years ago and sold to a young v cool couple from London they loved it and it was 100k cheaper than a period house in same location. I kept it very simple and changed all internal doors to glass and built a faux chimney breast in the corner of sitting room not central and clad it with stone tiles and put a optimist fire in it.

MrsCosmopilite · 26/01/2014 13:13

Looks like many of the houses around my way. Exteriors not great, but interiors are roomy and locations are good. I'd go with location.

morningpaper · 26/01/2014 14:10

Well I just took the children to look at it from the outside. They saw the front and looked depressed.

Then they saw the back and said WE MUST HAVE THIS HOUSE!!!!! The stream at the back was a big excitement for them and they can't believe it backs onto their favourite park.

So I'll make another offer tomorrow....

Noddy: I liked that the plastering was already perfect and I saw another one that had been stripped and the floor looks like great quality hardwood. I would definitely go white and Scandinavian....

MP - when we were buying we put in an offer that was rejected and we asked the agent what he thought vendors would be willing to accept. He gave us a figure and we suggested we meet half way. He felt tis was very fair and passed it on and it was accepted. It saved us putting in numerous offers till we crept up to what they would accept.

Not sure if that would help?

Mintyy · 26/01/2014 14:59

Just being nosy, but we haven't seen the actual house have we MP?
And sorry to hear about the divorce Sad.

When my parents split I had to move from an amazing, unique, completely cedar-clad architect designed house to a 60s house much like that one in your first link.

I don't remember the actual change of house affecting me very much at all.

CiderwithBuda · 26/01/2014 17:02

Mintyy - it's not the one in the link. It's much nicer! MP said she will pm the link if you pm her.

Mintyy · 26/01/2014 17:13

She has, Cider, and I've replied. It's a lovely house.

CiderwithBuda · 26/01/2014 17:24

I thought it was lovely too. Am in same town so can vouch for fact it is a great location.

HaveToWearHeels · 26/01/2014 17:25

OP, it's not that back and I bet the rooms are really large, could you brick up the panel under the windows and put some better windows in, change the front door ?

HaveToWearHeels · 26/01/2014 17:25

bad not back sorry

TheLeftovermonster · 26/01/2014 21:15

Good luck, hope you get it!

ChilliQueen · 26/01/2014 21:30

Husband swears by worst house on best street (ie. can only go up!). And that's what we've got!
Fab location (wouldn't change)... but house a horror outside. Once you're in though... slightly better (only slightly mind), and I have no inclination to make lovely - think impossible! I HATE IT!

MyNameIsKenAdams · 26/01/2014 21:36

We have four streets that we would only ever consider when looking to buy our next house. And one of them is the street we currently live on. We will evebtually need a third bedroom, so will pretty much need to jump.on the one that os for sale aroubd the time we want to move.

CatAmongThePigeons · 26/01/2014 22:14

Go for the house, the area is lovely (hope it's not too wet there!)

Vijac · 27/01/2014 00:32

Keep looking?...
