Buying a shed

What should I be looking for when buying a shed?

We have just moved into a new house and while there is an existing shed which looks OK from the outside, its not even close to waterproof which in the current weather is proving a problem!

I thought about getting a wooden wendy house for DS as we only really need it to keep garden toys etc in, but these are about as expensive as a full size shed, if not more.

So what do I need to know when buying a shed. (I have no DIY skills at all - I struggle to put up picture hooks, please be kind.)

Well I can only comment on a shed as that is something we bought 3 years ago. We had the base laid by a builder who was doing other work for us at the time but you already have a base down.

We went to a local shop that sold pre-fab garages and sheds. We went for a mid-range one so it was more solid than the basic model, ie the flooring was thicker and had more joists. And we felt it was more secure. We went windowless to make it more difficult to break into.

The company offered an erection service, we which took, they also fitted the stuff that helps the doors stay shut. The only thing I had to do was stain/paint it which I did with Ronseal Garden Shades paint.

We are competent DIYers (have installed bathrooms etc) but just wanted someone else to put it together and attach the roofing felt etc. Never leaked in 3+ years.
