Karndean or tiles for a bathroom floor??

About to embark on a new bathroom. We were going to have Karndean (which is what is there at the moment) but I'm now wondering about tiles instead. I had always thought tiles were more slippery and we have three DSs under 7 who have a tendency to make a wet mess at bathtimes. But we've seen some nice porcelain wall tiles which we could also use on the floor.

If you have tiles are you happy with your choice? Advantages/disadvantages?

I've got karndean in the kitchen and tiles in the bathroom. The karndean is lovely, its been down about 8 years, but I have noticed some movement with it recently near the sink. Not sure if its because its likely to get wetter there, or because people tend to stand in that spot more than anywhere else (to do the washing up.) in comparison the bathroom tiles are very sturdy and still look great 8 years later. With the amount of water etc in the bathroom I would go for the tiles. Are the tiles you've seen for floor use as well? If not I'd get proper floor tiles.

Based on my own experience go with Karndean.

We previously had gorgeous Fired Earth tiles. Look fab. Lots of splashy baby baths and thumping little feet wore away the grouting on a regular basis. They also ended up cracked accidently by visitors.

Now have Karndean, looks great and I don't have to worry about it.

I'm pretty sure that they are floor tiles as well (but I don't know much about tiles so will double check). The karndean that is currently in the bathroom looks as good as new but the bathroom layout is changing so it will have to come up. Just thought it might look cleaner with the same scheme on the walls and floor.

Brian - do you find the tiles slippery?

No, I've never found them to be slippery. They have a rough feel to them, rather than completely smooth. I always put a towel on the floor when getting out the bath or shower though to avoid the floor getting soaking wet. And I do mop up any spills when I see them, normally from the kids throwing cups of water over the side of the bath. But, no, they don't seem to be particularly slippery. No one has slipped on them in the past 8 years. (I'm really tempting fate now, I expect one of us will take a tumble tomorrow now I've said that!!)

Thanks - that's helpful. We have a bath mat on the floor and we are thinking of putting in underfloor heating which will help dry any spillages quickly (I hope).

Underfloor heating sounds nice. Its not really needed to keep the floor dry though, although I expect its lovely on cold mornings.
