We are moving to a new house and have no experience. I need to know about the process of house move to avoid stress, damage and make it easy. Also should we go with man and van or a local house removal company?

House removal company if you can afford it. They will even pack for you! Plus they are insured if anything goes wrong and are pros at humping the heavy stuff about.

Keep all the bits you need access to in the bathroom along with your pets. Specify that you will deal with the bathroom.

Start early - now in fact! Ruthlessly de-cluttering is key.

We did it with huge rental van - rented for 48 hrs, meant we got it afternoon before, so could pack a good half the house the day before which really helped.

Hello. Are you moving from rented? You will probably need to get a professional cleaner in once you have left the property if so - it's usually in your tenancy agreement.
I would get a proper removal company if you can afford it as they will have insurance etc. They often sell you boxes and packing materials too or you can pay them to pack for you. If they pack for you make sure you tell them what to leave or chuck away as they will literally wrap and pack a mouldy pear from your fruit bowl and you will find it weeks later! Same with out of date tins etc and rubbish in the bin! Make sure you pack yourself an overnight bag with toothbrush and pjs and any medication you take and keep it separate. The first thing I would do in the new house is make up your beds so that you can all go to bed the first night. I would also plan to get takeaway that night for dinner so you don't need to worry about plates and cooking etc. I would unpack the kitchen and bathrooms first. You will need to change your driver's licence to update your new address, plus car insurance, home insurance, update your bank, do a postal redirection (you have to go into the post office to do that). When you leave the property you should take gas and electricity meter readings and then call the energy companies to tell then you are leaving and either move or close your accounts. You will need to register for council tax and car permits at the new place with the council and cancel your old council tax account. I think that's it...very best of luck!! We did it with a five week old baby. It was intense but worth it!

if you are doing it yourself, get on to freecycle for boxes and materials, they cost a bomb.

check insurance for your removers (man or van, or company). You want to make sure it is a house move not a way to have all your possessions removed!

declutter, declutter, declutter.

no way to avoid stress but you can avoid damage. Plenty of hints online about packing.

If you have pets, consider taking them to a boarding kennel to eliminate the escape risk.

Agree a safe place with the movers where you can put hoover, cleaning stuff, phone chargers etc that won't be packed.

It depends either you want to do it at your own or want to go with a removal company. In both case, you need to categorize your items e.g, kitchen items, dinning room items, etc and give them a code just to keep a record.

There are many quote comparing websites through which you can get quotes from niche removal companies and go with the best one.

I found two sites really informative
