It's a big sunny room, with french doors onto the garden.
Contemporary and chic or a bit pale & insipid?

I love the blue but think maybe a darker work top so it doesn't all come out quite so pale?

HeadFullofSteam · 18/01/2014 18:51

May be a bit pale overall. Agree that a darker worktop might be better, or a darker floor to "ground the overall look"?

dontcallmemam · 18/01/2014 18:51

Thanks Joo, it's the worktop I love. Maybe I should go for a darker unit?

Sorry but I think it's too pale overall as well.

I am having the exact same worktop! Had it drawn up last week so looking forward to it being installed next week. I am having very pale colours (white cabinets) though as I have a lot of 'stuff' in my kitchen and so there will be colour everywhere and I didn't want things to clash. I am going on these from pinterest www.pinterest.com/pin/45880489925726045/ www.pinterest.com/pin/45880489925998844/ and here on houzz www.houzz.com/ideabooks/5458466/thumbs/Kitchen

Looks stunning lion are you having a darker floor?

Would this look better than the blue grey?

I'm not sure if I'm brave enough.

Do you have samples of all the items you can put together? I find that helps to see how it might go. As you know, I'm going for Skylight units, Silestone Mont Blanc worktop and (existing) quarry tiled floor. I've just uploaded a photo to my profile of the three elements together, take a look.

A pale floor might make it looked washed out, but Lion's houzz links show that a very pale kitchen can look stunning, and the accessories can 'sing'.

My only reservation about your chosen floor would be if it has too much browny tones in it; if it does (I can't really tell from the link) I'm not sure how they would look with the cool grey tones of the worktop and units?

dontcallmemam · 19/01/2014 13:02

I have got samples & put them together, they seem fine. The room isn't built yet & I'm hopeless at visualising. My cupboards & worktops are very similar to yours!
The floor is supposed to neutral, I don't want to do a grey as in years to come I expect I'll want the cupboards a different colour. Once it's down we'll never change it.
I had hoped to have the units in one colour & the island a deeper shade but I can't find the right colour in LG or F&B (which the kitchen designer prefers).

I've used that Light Blue and it's lovely but it is quite light and yet can look dull/drab and wishy washy in a north facing room. I would suggest doing a darker granite or wood worktop or using warm slate floor to stop the whole thing looking a bit washed out. It will need some contrast somewhere, at the moment everything is of roughly the same tone.

ilovedogsandcats · 19/01/2014 13:15

I think that the floor is too insipid and bland. Definitely go darker.

Gumps · 19/01/2014 13:24

From someone who is very bitter even 7 years later, do not go for a light coloured floor.

MairzyDoats · 19/01/2014 13:39

I think the worktop and cupboards will look fabulous together but you definitely need a darker floor. Is dark wood an option? Dark wood planks would be amazing. Very jealous that you're getting to choose. I'd kill for a new kitchen!

Thanks so much for the comments.
I'm dithering about the floor. I originally wanted wood, and I agree a darker polished board would be lovely. But then we were put off with tales of leaking dishwashers and not being good with UFH.
It's will be a lovely sunny room; south facing, triple aspect so maybe it cold take a darker more forgiving colour.

I would go for this colour unit, stunning, little Greene lead I believe

dontcallmemam · 19/01/2014 16:31

oh, that's lovely, will it go with the Carrera worktop?

I am having engineered wood flooring. I chose this one but have had issues with it as it has very very dark planks in some packs and there is no way of shuffling them so that they don't look stripy...but you can see from the web page the natural reddish bronzed wood look I was looking for I hope! www.flooringsupplies.co.uk/realwoodflooring/engineeredwoodflooring/5512/kahrs_oak_nouveau_bronze_engineered_wood_flooring

Engineered wood is the best type for anything around a sink and this has UV filters (I also have many windows and 2 french doors so was keen for it not to fade). I wanted to do something a little more exiting that white, but I figure my cabinets have around 30yrs in them at least, so I have plenty of time to have a think on it!

OnePlanOnHouzz · 20/01/2014 08:35

Hope it all goes well this week Lioninthesun!!!

kitsmummy · 20/01/2014 09:29

I think it would don'tcall, isn't that a marble worktop in the background of the pic? i'm going to have that kitchen one day

noddyholder · 20/01/2014 09:33

I love it. Don't go for a darker worktop. The closer in colour the 2 are the more elegant it looks. I have been seeing this in interiors the last 5 or so years and darker worktops look quite old iykwim.

dontcallmemam · 20/01/2014 11:27

Thanks so much for the input, it's really appreciated.
